On March 31, 2010 the Obama Administration announced it would open up large portions of the East Coast and Eastern Gulf Coasts to offshore oil drilling and exploration. The Minerals Management Service (MMS ) has called for seismic surveying to explore for oil along the mid and south Atlantic. Seismic testing represents the first step in offshore oil drilling and is extremely dangerous to marine life. We need voices to speak up against this harmful process and the momentum building for drilling.

I am posting 3 petitions here that are in dire need of signatures, all in Change.org. I also have one up for the panthers as you know me for my work for the Florida Panther. I have an excellent petition up for the panthers, 2 of which we've lost in a matter of less than a week. These signatures will go straight to their targets, and I will also have them printed up on recycled paper and physically mailed to the main target, in order to make it a double punch. I do greatly appreciate your time and attention to these very important petitions, I do feel they will make a difference, and we here at Care2 know we are all capable of doing that!

PLEASE SAY A PRAYER FOR OUR GENTLE GIANTS, THAT AUSTRALIA AND JAPAN MAKE POSITIVE DECISIONS TO SOMEHOW END THIS UNBELIEVABLE HORROR.
Recently, the Japanese Government sanctioned Shonan Maru No. 2, brutally and intentionally attacked the lives of the Sea Shepherd crew aboard the Ady Gil, endangering all occupants and illegally ignoring distress calls immediately after. These human lives were treated with the same contempt and lack of respect afforded the whales in the Southern Ocean by the Japanese officials. Now they've started the killing, please, we need signatures as soon as possible, this is a war, a war we fight to keep these beautiful, intelligent, and harmless gentle giants of the sea alive and protected, please help by just signing, please??? We have precious few hours left before this must be turned in, show the world you care and join us in protecting these innocents! THANK YOU!♥
UPDATE!!! GOVERNOR CRIST HAS STEPPED IN AT THE LAST MINUTE AND VETOED ALL THE CUTS PROPOSED THAT WOULD HAVE DESTROYED FLORIDA FOREVER!
Please friends, even though this call for action was slated for today, don't stop taking action, anyone who has not please it is never to late to speak up!
From: Defenders of Wildlife, Florida Office Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2009 5:52 PM To: EFleming Subject: EMERGENCY: Florida Legislature Poised to Gut Florida Forever Tomorrow!
Is Florida Forever history? Tomorrow, the state legislature could cut 80% of the funding for this landmark conservation program in an unbalanced, short-sighted effort to axe state spending. Take action to help save Florida Forever.
Florida Forever is the largest public land buying program in the nation and has helped protect more than one million acres of land and safeguard irreplaceable habitat for nearly 200 endangered species -- from sea turtles to gopher tortoises, to Florida panthers and black bears.
Florida Forever was established to safeguard vital wildlife habitat and environmentally sensitive land -- but it also makes Florida a better place to live by protecting our water resources, saving our coasts, preserving cultural and historical sites, and providing us with more parks and recreation areas.
Despite the amazing success of this landmark program, the legislature is poised to slash funding for this landmark program tomorrow.
Florida is one of the fastest growing states in the nation. That means that land conservation efforts are crucial to preserving the wild lands we have left for future generations. And with the price of land at record lows, now is not the time to cut this vital program -- and its investment in local real estate markets -- off at the knees.
Defenders of Wildlife and our allies in the Florida Forever Coalition are working overtime to protect Florida Forever. But we need your support to succeed.
The final vote will happen tomorrow, so please take action now to let your legislators know you support giving Florida Forever the funding it needs to continue to protect our special places and the imperiled animals that depend on them.
Thank you for taking urgent action to save Florida Forever,
Laurie Macdonald Florida Program Director Defenders of Wildlife Why we need to support Florida Forever now more than ever:
Times are hard, and we all need to shoulder responsibility, but that doesn’t mean we should cut our conservation programs off at the knees.
Other programs should share equally in budget reductions. An 80% budget cut is not fair and fails to recognize that the state’s economy relies on a healthy environment.
Floridians strongly support land conservation and wildlife protection programs, even when times are tough.
Breaking land acquisition contracts with landowners now will make them less likely to undertake the lengthy process required to sell land to the state in the future. Willing landowners are essential partners in conservation efforts across the state.
Land acquisition projects help fuel the state and local economy, providing jobs to local workers and invigorating ecotourism across the state.
Protecting habitat for sea turtles and other imperiled wildlife will be put on hold if drastic cuts are made to Florida Forever.

Florida Wildlife FederationACTION ALERT
The Legislature is poised to make severe reductions in Florida Forever -- 80-90% of THIS YEAR's land buying funds are proposed for elimination.
The final legislative vote is Wednesday, January 14, and the legislation will then go to Governor Crist for his signature.
Please e-mail or fax your legislators today with the following messages:
Full funding for Florida Forever is necessary -- and is consistent with the Legislature's unanimous approval of the the ten-year renewal of Florida Forever in the 2008 Session. Provide funds for Florida Forever land purchases that have been negotiated in good faith with land owners and are ready to be executed. Suspending or delaying Florida Forever projects will result in higher costs to taxpayers -- land that now can be acquired at a reasonable cost will soon be much more costly or unavailable. Funding for land management must also be continued for all state conservation lands. Don't raid land management trust funds. Contact information for Legislators can be found at http://www.flsenate.gov/Welcome/ Towards the bottom of the left-side menu, go to "Find your Legislators" and type in your zip code. Governor Crist's contact information is at http://www.flgov.com/contact_governor For the latest updates on Florida Forever, visit the Florida Forever Coalition website at http://www.supportfloridaforever.org/.

The L.A. Times wants to know whether the elephant Billy should remain at the L.A. Zoo, or go to a sanctuary. We want Billy to go to a sanctuary, and would appreciate if you could take a few seconds to visit this website and vote.
Scroll to the bottom of the story. Where you see this question:
Do you agree with Jack Hanna that Billy the elephant should remain at the L.A. Zoo?
Please don't stop writing and contacting the council! We can't let Tony fade away in that filthy place. THANK YOU!!!
Send Truck Stop Tiger to Big Cat Rescue
Tony the Tiger resides in a truck stop/roadside attraction in Grosse Tete, LA in a concrete cage that is overrun with feces and overwhelmed by fumes from 18-wheelers. Louisiana state wildlife officials have given the owner 30 days to find Tony a new home.
Big Cat Rescue, the world's largest accredited sanctuary, is willing to commit to the lifetime care of Tony, providing him clean conditions to live in, proper veterinary care, and an appropriate diet.
As supporters of Big Cat Rescue, we need your help to ensure that Tony is allowed to come to our sanctuary. Please take a moment to send the following letter, and if you are able, follow up with a phone call or fax to the Iberville Parish Council. The Council meets on Tuesday, December 16th, so time is of the essence.
Carlos contacted us because he lost his job, he has to move and can no longer care for his beloved dog Popo. Carlos picked up Popo off the street in 2003 and Popo was really sick with flea infestation and hot spots. Carlos got him stabilized so now Popo only gets the hot spots occasionally on his feet if he walks too far.
Popo is a wonderfully affectionate, 6 year old neutered male. His breed is the old style German Shepherd with the straight legs and straight back. He gets along well with other dogs and is fine with all people. He is up to date on all his shots and walks on a leash, just not too far. He does have some hip dysplasia and the vet is saying that he probably also has an immune deficiency that comes out as occasional skin ailments. Popo continues to need raw eggs added to his kibble to stimulate his appetite and to help with skin.Popo also takes antibiotics and immune system medication. He mostly needs a loving, low-key home where his medical condition can be monitored and treated when necessary.
Carlos would also welcome help with the transportation from Dade County, Florida to College Station, Texas which would enable him to possibly keep Popo.
Can you provide that special home for Popo?
Or can you help with his transport?
You can also help by printing and posting this message and passing it on to your friends and family.
Please call Carlos at (305)299-3163 or email him at email@example.com
Thanks Members. We are making a difference one animal at a time.

Fur Free Fridayis almost here and activists everywhere are hunkering down to finalize their plans for the most prolific Fur Free Friday yet! In fact, this year, eventsare taking place in over 75 cities on every continent besides Antarctica! Hopefully there is an event close enough for you to participate. If not, you can still help fur-bearing animals by asking Amazon.com to stop selling fur today!
Every year, over 50 million animals are brutally killed and skinned to make fur products. While many companies have pledged to go fur-free, other popular companies, such as Amazon.com, continue to cause and profit from animal suffering.
After receiving nearly 12,000 emails, Amazon.com’s competitor, Zappos.com, recently stopped selling all items with fur and pledged to stay fur-free. Now we need you to help us convince Amazon to follow Zappos' lead and become fur-free, as so many other retailers - including Nike, Gap, J. Crew, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Forever 21 - have.
Amazon.com Inc. 1200 12th Ave. S., Ste. 1200 Seattle, WA 98144 (206) 622-2335; press O to speak to an Amazon.com operator
I was disappointed to learn that Amazon.com contributes to the suffering of millions of animals by selling real fur--and thrilled to learn that your competitor, Zappos.com, has recently gone fur-free.
As you know, animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages.
Fur farmers use the cheapest and cruelest killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gassing, and poisoning.
With so many alternatives to animal fur available, it's time for your company to remove fur from its collections permanently. Whether it comes from minks, foxes, raccoons, chinchillas, beavers, rabbits, or lynxes, fur looks best on its original owners.
Please do the right thing: Follow Zappos' lead and ditch the fur.
A message from Ceci M Hi! I wanted to share this website from the ASPCA with you. We’re working to get 1,000,000 people to vote to fight cruelty. Check out the debates online and cast your vote today. Thanks!
