Italy will still harbour hopes of progressing in this World Cup, with a match against Ireland to come next Sunday. But the win over Russia, achieved by a second-strength side, was comfortable enough and the side did everything necessary, including bagging four tries early on. Italy’s forward power has been impressive so far, and the pack will be looking to carry that kind of form into and through this fixture. Given good ball, the backline has the speed and class to create chances and then finish them off.

The Eagles suffered a heavy defeat to Australia and really did not play very well. In particular the tackling, which has been a feature of the USA performances to date, was poor and the ragged chase-line let the speedy Australian backs have far too much room to operate. In the two matches contested by the main XV only three tries have been conceded and the American tackling has been one of the features of the tournament. A little more punch on attack will not do any harm, as they will need to find ways to break down a solid Italy defensive line.
