Since I've been a member for 3 months now, I've signed about 400 petitions at Care2. I think Care2 is the greatest website on the net. I know some people think signing online petitions is a waste of time but it isn't. If a petition is created correctly and is specific regarding an issue, and then given to exact, certain individuals or groups that can effect or influence the change that the petitioner wants, then I think they're very effective. I've been a passionate nature advocate for 12 yrs. now, and one of the most effective means of change are handwritten (typed) personal letters to people in charge of the issue. This beats form letters hands down. I've sent them to editors of papers, magazines, politicians, officials, etc. and almost always receive replies back that are favorable. I firmly beleive the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Those that shout the loudest, the longest, get heard. Be intelligent in your letters, be specific about what you want and what are stating. And never ever say or state anything that you yourself are not sure whether it is true or not (factual or not). Because someone will find it out and prove you wrong and your credibility will be instantly ruined in it's entirety. So always state facts and truths. That way nobody can shoot you or anything you say down (well, they can try but it just bounces off you). Kenneth
Hi to everybody, I just want to urge all members of Care2 to sign more petitions! There's a lot available for everyone to add their comments and signatures to, or just their signatures. Since there's over 8 million of us, we should be flooding all these good causes with many times more signatures than are currently being signed. While a few thousand or even 50,000 signatures sounds like a lot, it isn't compared to our 8 million membership. So sign at least 10 a day, pick the ones you want, and effect the changes you really desire! Another good petition site is PetitionOnline.com
I just joined Care2 recently and am in petition signing heaven. But I notice that with 7 million members evidently in Care2 a woefully small number seem to actually DO something valuable toward helping the planet, meaning only a small number of members seem to sign petitions for this and that cause. After being a passionate nature advocate for 9 years I've learned that written and personal comments that address issues such as through petitions DOES carry a lot of weight with those in a position to effect the changes you want them to. In other words the squeaky wheel does get the grease, and those that shout the loudest the longest usually win in issues. So come on people! Make it a point to go to the Petitions page, pick at least 5 a day that interest/inflame you and sign and send your voice too. While it's nice to have a good old social free-for-all place like Care2, it's the actual help we all give to the planet. To be effective is the PLAN!
