We did a sign wave for Huckabee yesterday. It was awesome!! We got a lot of positive responses. Some Ron Paul people showed up and sign waved across the street from us. The local TV station was supposed to send a crew to cover us for the news but they never showed up. So tomorrow, we sre going to sign wave in front of the TV station and several other places around town. Then we are planning a rally for Monday and we are going to sign wave polling places on Tues.
Texans for Huckabee!!
Album:Sign Wave
We did a sign wave for Huckabee yesterday. It was awesome!! We got a lot of positive comments from passersby (as well as some negative). But hey, thats politics.
As the race for the White House heats up, lobbyists have their eyes on more than just the next president.
The presidential nominating conventions that Democrats and Republicans hold every four years have become prime opportunities for lobbyists to throw lavish parties for members of Congress.
If this scenario seems ripe for mischief, that's because it is. In fact, you helped us ban this sneaky practice of buying influence with last year's landmark lobbying and ethics reform.
The House ethics committee released its guidelines for lobbyists who want to wine and dine Congress. In a perversion of the new lobbying and ethics rules that ban lobbyists from hosting parties at the national conventions that "honor a member of Congress," it said that lobbyists cannot throw parties "honoring" a single member of Congress, but that it's perfectly OK if they are "honoring" two or more members of Congress.
But the Senate ethics committee got it right. The Senate's guidelines forbid lobbyist parties for one, two, or any number of members of Congress.
Take Action NOW: Tell your representative that the House ethics guidelines for convention parties are absurd - and hardly ethical.

I turned 40 today. Wow! How did that happen?? I don’t feel 40. People tell me I don’t look 40. But I am. I can’t believe how the time has flown! People tell me that the older you get the faster time seems to go. If that’s true, my life is going to be over in a flash because it is already going at break-neck speed!!
But you know what? Other than some aches and pains from my younger, wild days, I FEEL GREAT!! I don’t feel a day over 21. My energy and enthusiasm level is at an all-time high! Everyday is a gift and I try to live each one as if it is my last. After dealing with my Dad passing away last March, I decided I am going to live my life with no regrets. I don’t want to get to the end of my life and wish I had done something different. So, I try to treat everyone as I will never see them again and do everything as if I will not have a chance to do it again. Then, by chance, if something happens to them and I never see them again I won’t to have to wish that I would have appreciated them better while I had the chance. Does that make sense?
Anyway contrary to what I have been told, life begins anew everyday!! I plan to keep climbing that hill and only crest over the top when my life ends and I cross that great divide into eternity.
The 2008 presidential candidates are engaged in never-ending race for campaign contributions – relying more than ever on bundlers and big donors, who attain special access and plum appointments as reward for their support.
I want to tell you about an organization I read about in this months GOOD Magazine. It is called the Canary Project. They are a husband and wife team, Ed Morris and Susannah Sayler. They are artists, writers and photographers and the are bringing awareness of global warming to people using art depicting the results of GW with informative descriptions and/or suggestions of experts on how to deal with the problem. They have traveled around the world to build their portfolio and they give presentations and speak at colleges all around the country. Their two-person operation started in 1996 has grown to a fairly large organization of artists and environmentalists.
I am very pleased to announce that the first shipment for the Free Rice program has hit the ground at two refugee camps in Bangladesh!! There is a 2 1/2 minute video on their website that tells all about it. They show the food being distributed and interview some of the relief workers, and also that designer of the game.
For those that don't know FreeRice is a vocabulary game where you are given a word and four choices of answers and for every correct answer 20 grains of rice get donated to the United Nations Food Program and it gets distributed to needy people throughout the world. I know 20 grains of rice doesn't sound like much, but it adds up. The game is addictive and the totals rack up fast!! I started about a month ago and I am up 22,000 grains of rice donated!! The money comes from advertisers whose banners are rotated at the bottom of the page.
Some schools are even using it as an educational tool. Education while doing charity work!! Now that's a concept I like!!
"Downed" animals—those too sick or injured to stand or walk on their own—are often kicked, dragged with chains, prodded with electric shocks, or hauled by forklift in an effort to move them to slaughter. They may be left to languish without food, water, or veterinary care. Downed animals are also at a higher risk of carrying harmful diseases, such as mad cow, E. coli, and Salmonella. At least 12 of the 14 cases of mad cow disease identified in North America have reportedly involved downed animals.
Although the USDA established a temporary ban on the slaughter of downed cattle in 2004 following the discovery of mad cow disease in the U.S., the agency has never finalized the policy nor enforced it comprehensively, and has been pressured by industry to weaken it. The Downed Animal and Food Safety Protection Act (H.R. 661/S. 394) would ban USDA inspectors at slaughterhouses from approving meat from downed cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, and equines. The Act also requires immediate humane euthanasia for any animal who goes down.
Take Action Check these lists (House co-sponsors; Senate co-sponsors) to see if your federal legislators have already co-sponsored this legislation. If your one U.S. Representative and two U.S. Senators are not on the lists, please make short, polite phone calls and then send them a follow-up email to urge them to co-sponsor the Downed Animal and Food Safety Protection Act. If they are already co-sponsors, thank them! Click here to look up your federal legislators and their office phone numbers. You can also reach them by calling the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.
After you make your calls, fill in the form at the right to automatically send a message to your Representative and Senators. Your legislators receive a lot of email, so it is important to personalize the subject line and text below to help your message stand out and have a greater impact.
