From "Galloping Scared", published in Vanity Fair Magazine:

"As the horses hit a straightaway at full stride, a camouflaged fence gradually funnels them into a trap. Close to the neck of the trap, the roundup crew releases a "Judas horse," which runs to the front of the pack and leads the mustangs directly into a tiny corral. Once inside, the horses screech to a stop, piling up on top of one another as dust flies, the gate slams, and the helicopter pulls away to go back for more horses. When the crew is finished, a few of the horses will be released back onto the range, some will be put up for adoption, but most will be relocated to government holding facilities, and a large number will be eligible to be sold to slaughterhouses, thanks to Senator Conrad Burns (Republican, Montana)."

We need lots of phone calls and emails to US Senators asking at minimum that they co-sponsor S 1915, if unable to co-sponsor, commit to vote YES on S1915, AND call the bill for a vote.

Thanks everyone!

92% of horses slaughtered are young, healthy, and strong.  Many are wild horses, former racehorses, and family pets.  They are NOT old, decrepit, and lame as opponents of S1915 would have everyone believe.

Also, the whole process from start to finish of slaughtering horses for human consumption is cruel and causes the horses great pain and suffering.  From aquisition or capture, to transport, to the kill floor, these sensitive, intelligent, loyal creatures suffer.  It is by no means a "humane form of euthanasia" as opponents of S1915 also would have everyone believe.

For the horses,

It is said that the eyes are the windows to the soul.  There is much to be said about this.  You can see emotion through the eyes, can you not?  You can often tell if a person is lying or not by looking into their eyes.  Wha...
