Well yesterday I finished the doantion portion of my christmas shopping.  This year I decided to donate to various charities in honor of my family members instead of buying gifts.  I am, however, making some reusable shopping bags for them to use.

Well it's official, I have passed on my love of thrifting to my children.  I live in Phoenix, AZ, so it doesn't get very cold (it gets cold for us).  My son this morning told me that his sweatshirt was not cutting it and he was still cold, after putting another shirt on him I asked if he would like to go to Goodwill this weekend to buy a coat.  He thought this was a great idea and is looking forward to it.  Good boy!! I am so proud of him.

So this Christmas I have decided that since my extended family never (or very rarely) uses anything I buy them that I will donate to a charity that I find appropriate for the person.  My neice and nephew(4 and 1) will both have a donation to the National Wildlife Federation (this way since they are little they will each received a stuffed animal), my sister Race for the Cure (our grandmother passed from a 16 yr battle afew years back), etc.

I did feel that it would be nice to have something tangible for each person, so I am sewing something for each of them.  My brothers and father have been traveling so I will make them a thin fanny pack thing that can fit in their pants for their passports and such, shopping bags for the women, and whatever else I can easily make (I am an amatuer, self taught seamtress).  Wish me luck!!

On black friday I avoided all of the lines at the stores when I went THRIFTING!  My husband and I decided that this year we (or should I say Santa) would not be delivering anything that required a battery.  (I am sick of noisy toys!)  Books were first on the list.  So I went to 5 thrift stores (all within 2 miles of my home) and found about 40 books. I loved the experience of knowing that I did my part on Black Friday to help the environment. (the fact that I have more $$ to spend on the little ones is a plus too!)
