Hercules the liger, who at the age of six stands 11.4 feet tall on his back legs and weighs an astonishing 950 pounds (431kgs) till date. Hercules has featured in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest living mammal of the cat species in the world.

Poaching, shrinking forests and weak political will have nearly wiped the tiger, Panthera Tigris, India's national animal, out. With just about 1,400 tigers left, even by the most optimistic calculations, the tiger will probably survive only a few more years. Our recently-released Birds and Climate report clearly shows that climate change is affecting birds – and our world – now. For the past 40 years, as our climate has warmed, birds have shifted their winter ranges further and further north. This ecological disruption is yet another wake up call that we must act quickly to solve the climate crisis. Tony the Tiger at the Tiger Truck Shop

Tony the Tiger resides in a truck stop/roadside attraction in Grosse Tete, LA in a concrete cage that is overrun with feces and overwhelmed by fumes from 18-wheelers. Louisiana state wildlife officials have given the owner 30 days to find Tony a new home.

Big Cat Rescue, the world's largest accredited sanctuary, is willing to commit to the lifetime care of Tony, providing him clean conditions to live in, proper veterinary care, and an appropriate diet.

As supporters of Big Cat Rescue, we need your help to ensure that Tony is allowed to come to our sanctuary. Please take a moment to send the following letter, and if you are able, follow up with a phone call or fax to the Iberville Parish Council.

Update: The Iberville Parish Council will be holding a public hearing on February 17th to take comment on the ordinance that is currently in place (from 1993!) that prohibits possession of big cats. Even if you wrote before, please do so again because the council has agreed to allow the truck stop owner to submit an amendment to their ban that would let him continue to use the tiger. Now, more than ever, Tony needs your support by writing letters, sending faxes, or making phone calls to the Iberville Parish Council.

Big Cat Rescue has hired an attorney to represent Tony and Big Cat Rescue. He will use the strength of your letters and the law to persuade the Iberville Parish council to enforce their 1993 ban on wild animal displays.
