The following groups primarily provide adoption opportunities for people interested in adopting retired Standardbreds for use as pleasure horses. Generally, the adoption of these horses precludes the new owner from using the Standardbred for racing or breeding purposes. Some of these groups also offer some structured programs for youths and adults geared toward pleasure riding and driving, and some work with youth with special needs. For specific information on the programs offered by each agency, you should contact them directly.
Before you contact one or more of these groups, please read FAQs about Standardbred Adoption. It may answer some of your questions about the adoption process and the Standardbred breed.
For more information about Standardbreds, please go to the USTA Standardbred Breed Information page.

Check out this excellent site that helps find homes for retired racehorses. There are two facilities in Ohio, one in Michigan and one in Tennessee. From personal experience I know they are very good. Thank you. Terri K. http://www.horseadoption.com/
