I'm no scientist and I have to admit that some of the specifics go over my head.

But I do read the papers and watch the news and I know the factoids and stories that we see and hear all the time: 19 of the 20 hottest years on record have occurred since 1980, the number of named storms during our hurricane season has increased dramatically (a record number of 28 named storms in 2005), and polar bears drowning in the arctic because their ice floes are melting right under them.

Yes, on some level, I sound like I'm writing dialogue for Dennis Quaid from disaster flick "The Day after Tomorrow", but there is a lot more to it than what the average person sees or reads about (or cares to digest) on a regular basis.

With the Time magazine cover articles from April and the new Al Gore movie "An Inconvenient Truth", I'm hopeful that after years, there might finally be the political will (forced by we the people, of course) to actually do something beyond dispute facts that are pretty much indisputable--unless of course you're a scientist funded by companies who produce fossil fuels.

There's a cool (pun intended!) discussion going on at Care2 around global warming, including guest experts talking about the science of global warming.

Maybe just as important, we hope there will be a discussion about the policies that can make a difference and how each of us can make a difference in our daily lives. If we all change just a little, it can add up to a lot. Yesterday and today, the GW site is featuring Bill Chameides, the Chief Scientist for Environmental Defense. Send him a question! And if you're skeptical, even better. It's time for an honest conversation and figuring out what we need to do together.
