Can the Cubs be far behind?

Their cross-town rivals became the latest long-suffering team to celebrate a World Series championship for the first time since World War I, beating the Houston Astros 1-0 Wednesday night for a four-game sweep.

If that sounds familiar, it is.

Just a year ago, the same story line captivated baseball when the Red Sox swept St. Louis to capture their first title in 86 years.

That leaves only one team with a similar epic streak of futility -- the Cubs, losers since 1908. (end quote, see link for full article)

Well, it is over, after 88 years of waiting, the White Sox win the World Series. The curse of the infamous black sox lifted, and the Chicago White Sox are once again just another team trying to win it all each year. Quite a series in my opinion.

- A team that had not won in 88 years against a team that had never one in franchise history

- 2 players hit home runs in their first World Series at bats

- The longest world series game on record, over 5 1/2 hours and 14 innings long

- Possibly the first time a pitcher has gotten a win and a save in consecutive world series games

Congrats to all the White Sox for their acheivement, and to the Astros for their strong efforts, keeping every game close to the end.
