Please read the entire article and pass it on to others. This is very disturbing. It took place in a small town located on Whidbey Island in Washington State. ALL PARENTS EVERY WHERE PLEASE BEWARE AND BE EDUCATED! Important Security Message from Dr. Rick Schulte
Parents: The following is an advisory sent out by the South Whidbey School District about a security issue that occurred there this morning. This is something all parents of elementary school children should be aware of. If nothing else, it is a good reminder to talk to your children about strangers offering rides.
Dr. Rick Schulte Superintendent
May 12, 2010
To Parents of South Whidbey Elementary Students,
This morning, Wednesday, May 12th, a fourth grade female student was waiting at a school bus stop in downtown Langley when she was approached by an older man and woman who she described as having darker skin with an accent in a tan or gold hatchback car, who told her the buses weren't running, would she like a ride to school. She said no and went to a nearby business who notified police. This girl did exactly what she has been taught to do. The police will continue to look into the matter.
Parents and staff are encouraged to remind children about good habits of personal safety. If anyone sees this vehicle, please report it either to the Langley Police Department at 360-221-4433 or call 911.
Sincerely,
Fred McCarthy Superintendent (South Whidbey School District)
It seems so hard to put into words what I have in my head right now. My ex-husband is an addict with his drug of choice methamphetamine. He has been staying with us for over a month awaiting a bed in the rehab center the recovery service has found for over a month and a half.
Finally, on Monday the 9th of May he left for rehab.
We are in need of prayers for him and to guide him closer to god as he finds himself in a good place again. Our children have had much pain with the way dad has been, please pray for them to have the strength to understand daddy is sick and we must pray to god and ask for his understanding and ask for his help.
Jon is a good man. At one time very loving. kind, loving and most important he loves his children and our grandchildren. Somewhere in his life he turned to drugs and alcohol to cope. This has gone on since he was fourteen years old. Please put him in your hearts and prayer for him to heal, to find himself, to be able to walk away from the drugs and alcohol. Please pray for my entire family, we are all very concerned about him.
I have prayed to god and asked that if Jon can not walk his path alone to help him walk it with the lord, a mentor, any positive influence. I pray that he finds himself and realizes how many people love him and want him well. Pray that the first step of asking for help will be enough to turn things around. Pray that the lord put him in his arms and carry him when Jon cannot do so himself.
God is good and kind, stern yet loving. He offers peace to those who seek it. He offers comfort to those that need to be comforted. Most of all he has the compassion to love each of us whether we are with him in faith or just sort of soaring out there.
With our loving hearts we thank you for all of your prayers and understanding.
OAK HARBOR, Wash. - School's out for 7-year-old Logan Gonzales. He's made it through another day where he didn't have to go to the hospital, a terrifying ritual that has become almost routine. And it's all because of a life-threatening peanut allergy.
"Any contact or someone breathing on him after eating peanuts will set him off to where he starts getting mappy on his skin and it's hard for him to breathe," says dad Derick Gonzales.
That makes going to school at Oak Harbor's Crescent Elementary or any place else for that matter, a risky venture.
Logan's peanut allergy is so severe he's been hospitalized once a month for the last year. Every reaction becomes more terrifying for his family.
"Maybe this could be the one that might kill him," says Gonzales.
That's why doctors say a peanut-sniffing dog would be so beneficial. It would be able to detect the exposure before it's too late.
"The dog would sniff things out to make sure it's ok for Logan to have contact with them or play with them," says Gonzales.
The problem is the price tag. Gonzales' construction business has fallen on hard times and his wife only works part-time. They simply can't afford the $12,000 price tag for a peanut dog. That's where Erica Schumacher comes in.
"A friend of mind works for the Gonzales' insurance company and told me how this boy needs a peanut dog but that insurance wouldn't cover it. I was a fundraiser in a former life so I decided to take it on," she said.
Please pray for those in the Path of Gustav. Almost three years to the day and these people are faced with yet another major storm.
Whatever your higher power may be, or what you believe to be your almighty, please ask that people's lives be spared and that they may return to their homes and find them still standing. Please pass this message on and join hands worldwide in strength for those in Gustav's path.
A small army of nurses mustered to give the shots in the immunization drive. Crowds were good at every site, including the airport, where cars were backed up to the street waiting by early afternoon.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - In the nine months since she was born, tiny Fatima Jubouri first lost her father, then gunmen killed her mother and uncle and she was left alone and uncared for in a pile of garbage in Baghdad.

We all worry about keeping our children safe from abuse and neglect, but many times we just forget to click it or to make sure they have the proper car seat for their age.
Check with your state's laws and find out what is considered legal in your state with regards to child restraints while in a vehicle.
Washington's New Child Restraint Law
Effective June 1, 2007, children less than eight years old must be restrained in child restraint systems, unless the child is four feet nine inches or taller. A child who is eight years old or older, or four feet nine inches or taller, must be properly restrained either with the motor vehicle's safety belt or an appropriately fitting child restraint system. Children under thirteen years old must be transported in rear seats where it is practical to do so.
The fine for improperly restrained children in motor vehicles is at least $112 per child.

Washington Child Restraint Law

On June 1, 2007, Washington's revised Child Restraint Law went into effect. This law, also known as the Anton Skeen Act, is one of the strongest child restraint laws in the nation. It requires the use of booster seats for older children. In 2000, Washington was the first state in the nation to pass this type of law.
Key provisions of the law:
Children under the age of 16 years must be restrained in a vehicle according to the following steps:
. 1 year of age AND under or weighing less than 20 pounds: a rear facing infant seat
. Between 1 - 4 years old or 20 - 40 pounds: a forward facing child safety seat
. Children under 8 years of age, unless 4 feet 9 inches tall: a booster seat with a lap and shoulder belt
. Children over 8 years of age: a properly fitting seat belt or a booster seat with a lap and shoulder belt
NOTE: Doctors and safety experts recommend that children ride in booster seats until the lap and shoulder belt fit right, usually when they are at least 4'9" tall, or around 8 years old.
As of June 1, 2007, tickets cost $112 for each improperly restrained child, including if the child safety seat harness is not buckled, or if the older child has put the shoulder belt behind his back.
Shoulder belts must be used with booster seats at all times! A child is exempt from the booster seat law requirement, only when a child weighs 40 pounds or more and is in a vehicle with lap-only belts.
The law was the work of a bi-partisan legislative effort spurred on by a Walla Walla parent, Autumn Alexander Skeen.
Autumn lost her four-year-old son, Anton Skeen in a rollover collision. Anton was using a seat belt in accordance with state law at the time. Yet, because seat belts are built for adult bodies, he slid out of his seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle and crushed in the collision.
