The Government wants to stop giving money to Healthy Families America and some other family service programs - organisations that take care of those who are unable to take care of themselves- kids.
My friend Lee Huntington works with Prevent Child Abuse Virginia and Healthy Families America ( http://www.preventchildabuseva.org/ ) Below are his letter to Governor and message to friends asking everyone to support Healthy Families and tell Governor that it is important to keep HF program running.
Could you please help by adding your voice too?
Have you got friends in Virginia or those who consider themselves as friends of VA? Tell them to do the same. Spread the message please. If one state cuts funding on Family care, others might take that as example to "fix" their economy too. And I strongly believe it's not the way to do that.
Thank you. Ausra P.
Lee Huntington:
dear Virginia Friends. Yesterday, among other budget recommendations, Governor McDonnell recommended zeroing out funding for Healthy Families programs in Virginia along with several other family service programs.
Prevent Child Abuse Virginia has mounted a call-in and letter writing campaign. I'd like to ask that each of you take a few minutes to call the Governor's office and speak to an aide. Please express your opposition to the recommended cuts.
The governor's office number is: 804-786-2211 you don't have to go through the whole voice menu. Zero will get you and Aide.
I just sent him the letter in this note which I provide as background:
Thanks for your assistance, Lee Huntington.
Lee's letter to the Governor:
Dear Governor McDonnell,
As one of the external evaluators for the Healthy Families initiative in Virginia I want to express strongly my disappointment with and opposition to the proposed elimination of HF funding in your budget recommendations. I base my opposition on the following points:
Research has demonstrated that in economic downturns, cases of child abuse and neglect increase and families are at higher-risk for a host of problems.
Child abuse and neglect, as well as other adverse childhood experiences (ACES ), contribute to life-long deficits in learning, health, economic self-sufficiency, and worker productivity. www.acestudy.org
The CDC has gone so far as to state that ACES are the number one factor driving US health care costs and contributing to adult morbidity and mortality.
Healthy Families has for 18 years demonstrated a track record of breaking the cycle of child abuse and neglect, improving access to health care for children, improving immunization rates among under-served groups, and improving protective factors that help children be ready for school.
I would like to ask you to please reconsider your recommendation to cut the funding for this strongly demonstrated program.
If you, like me, love these nice furry God's creatures and want share joy not grief looking at them (their pictures) PLEASE note my news and SIGN petition (link given in one of comments under the news) You may also find this and a few Panda related petitions going directly to care2 petition site and typing "pandas" in the search box.

Love the man who calls you "pretty" not "sexy", the one who calls you even if you've dropped the phone.. The one who doesn't get asleep wishing to watch you sleeping.. The one who kises your forehead.. The one who's willing to show you the whole world even if you're not quite ready.. The one who doesn't care whether you became fatter or slimmer during the year.. The one who says: "What will you eat today, I'll cook".. The one who takes your hand while with friends.. Wait for the one who keeps saying what you mean for him and how lucky he is having you and the one who says "That's SHE" then introducing you to his friends.. Love him because he loves you and probably will do it forever.
(Un)Known Lithuania, that has made his first steps so far, is celebrating its first bithday on October 25.
