"It is sadly ironic that while we look longingly to space in search of other intelligent life forms, we are surrounded by thousands of species of intelligent life sharing our earth whose awareness, abilities, and subjective experiences we have barely begun to understand and appreciate.  The diversity of intelligence in nature is astonishing because species, subspecies, and individuals all have unique qualities of intelligence.  However, scientists, like most people in our culture, have typically been loath to recognize or respect the diversities of intelligence in nature because they participate both consciously and unconsciously in a society that requires an almost complete domination of animals."  The World Peace Diet page 40 by Will Tuttle PH.D

China prepares for 2008 Olympics
In preparation for the Olympic Games to be held in Beijing in 2008, China has decided to tackle the problem of stray dogs.  Due to fears of rabies, these animals are generally not eaten and have become widespread in some cities.  Instead of introducing a plan of spay and neuter as has been done in more civilized countries the Chinese solution is far more brutal.
Long poles with a wire loop at one end are used by dog wardens throughout the world as an efficient and safe method of catching dogs.  But in China the procedure is performed by a two man team.  While one man holds the dog helpless with his pole, his partner beats the dog to death with another pole. This is done with government approval and these bands of killers roam the city streets slaughtering any dogs they find.
Pet dog ownership is not encouraged in China, due both to the Chinese obsession with eating anything that moves and to Mao Tse Tung's declaration of this to be a symbol of the bourgeoisie.

Hello everyone- I just want to share that there is an easy and free way to help worthy causes. On the care2 homepage go to Click to donate. There are ten worthy causes such as environment, poor children, breast cancer, and endangered species.  All you have to do is click on them and a donation is generated.  If many of us would do this daily or as often as we can it can make an impact. It's free!  Thank you.  Mike
