ANIMAL ADVOCATES, PLEASE HELP STOP DEADLY HORSE RACE
Every summer since 1935, the little town of Omak, WA, hosts the “World Famous Suicide Race,” part of an annual rodeo in Eastern Washington State. Horses participating in this event are forced to race at breakneck speeds down nearly vertical hills, into treacherous waters and through grueling uphill terrain—with dire consequences for many of them.

The equines involved have suffered from heart attacks caused by overexertion, and from broken knees, legs, necks and pelvises resulting from collisions or tumbling several hundred feet downhill. Deaths by falling or drowning are not uncommon—in 2004, three horses died in the first heat alone. This year’s race takes place August 9-12.
