Foraging for free wild foods is something an increasing number of people are doing and the autumn months is an excellent time for looking for fruit, nuts and fungi. Many berries have ripened and wild mushrooms can be found in field and forest. Anyone interested in butterflies, gardening and wildlife conservation will love The Butterfly Gardener by Miriam Rothschild and Clive Farrell. This brilliant book looks at how you can attract butterflies to your garden. It explains what are the best flowers to grow and is divided into two sections with the first being written by Miriam Rothschild who looks at outdoor butterfly gardening, whilst her co-author describes butterfly gardening in greenhouses where exotic species can be reared. I have reviewed it here: http://bardofely.hubpages.com/hub/The-Butterfly-Gardener-by-Miriam-Rothschild-and-Clive-Farrell-reviewed
Inspired by the work of environmentalist David de Rothschild and his Plastiki Expedition in 2010, the British School Tenerife organised a series of school trips to beaches at La Caleta, so the children could see for themselves the reality of plastic pollution of the oceans. With the help of teachers from the school the children carried out surveys and discovered that on average there was as much as seven pieces of plastic to one square metre of beach. A full report with images of some of the plastic found can be read at Tenerife Islander's HubPages site here: http://tenerifeislander.hubpages.com/hub/David-de-Rothschild-Plastiki-inspires-British-School-Tenerife-excursions
