On Sept. 1st of this year we received a call telling us about horses starving at Phoenix Rising Horse Rescue in Holt County Nebraska.

We left on Sept. 2 to see if there was any truth to the call. We had horses fostering up there with the owner, and couldn't believe it would be true.
We were wrong.  The horses were in horrible shape, with several critical.
We removed ours immediately. Also, removed a horse belonging to her, that had to be euthanized due to neglect, and starvation. A few days later we lost Sally to complications from starvation. Not only were horses starved, but several of the fosters were missing. Four other starving horses were removed by another party, leaving 19 remaining. Several of those 19 belonged to another horse rescue in Nebraska, but she wouldn't remove them from harms way knowing the horrible conditions that were found.
Statements, pictures, and accounts were given to the sheriff, and county attorney, but it has become obvious that they have no intentions of prosecuting her for neglect, or starvation. So much for law enforcement in a small town.
This woman is a hoarder, and an abuser. It is critical that word is spread that any horses put in her care will suffer, and die a horrible death.
I have been attacked for bring her abuse to light. The pictures tell it all. There is no excuse for what she put these poor animals through. It is a sick fact that there are those that will defend her. What defense is there??

Hi to all of my Care friends.

This is a horrible time to be a horse in America, and the recession is making it down right deadly.

People losing homes and jobs are looking for safe havens for their beloved horses. People on fixed incomes are doing the same, and there is always those wonderful horses going to slaughter, each and every day.

We are doing all in our power to save as many as we can, but we can't continue without your help!

We need the help of the horse lovers everywhere to please take a minute and send a small donation, even one dollar will add up.

Fuel prices have driven the price of hay out of most peoples reach, and the amount of feed, is a big determination on how many horses you can save. Plus, there are always vet bills, for treatment, surgeries, and don't forget the farrier.

BREAK HEART RANCH NEEDS YOUR HELP NOW!  What a wonderful idea for Christmas, a donation to help the animals, or a remembrance for someone who has passed. We will be happy to send a beautiful card in recognition of your donation in their name.

The horses need you. I can't do it without you. Please spread the word.

We are registered with GOOD SEARCH, so pleas use GOOD SEARCH,  for your web searching and we will receive 1 penny each time. It all adds up.

Donations can be made through paypal.com as well.

I need your help. We must stay open and save these wonderful animals.

Sincerely,

Val Hinderlider    Break Heart Ranch Horse Rescue   www.breakheartranch.com

Hi friends Due to a second knee replacement (first one failed) I am very behind in everything. It is a bad time of year for horse rescue, feed is in short supply and very expensive, so I am doing my best to keep everyone fed and happy. My rescues are my life, so they have to come first. So please don't give up on me. I still sign all the petitions I can. I appreciate all the wonderful postings to my page. I hope to add some new pictures soon. We lost our sweet Double Eagle the last of December, due to colic. No warning, just out to feed one morning and he was gone, but we have others that needs us too, and this is a bad year for horses. Thanks all my wonderful care friends for being patient with me. Val

I know the holidays are approaching and that is a time of joy for many. For the rescues it is a time of need. Drought, rain, all have went against us this year to destroy the hay crop and raise prices. Horses still have to eat, need medical care, etc. If you are trying to come up with that perfect holiday gift that will not only help sustain a wonderful rescue, but is in the true meaning of giving, please think about a donation to your favorite animal rescue. Every dollar adds up. You can even become a "guardian Angel, or special sponsor for a special animal in need. Have a wonderful holiday. Best Wishes from all the gang at Break Heart Ranch Horse Rescue. Timmy was a rescue horse thin, bedraggled and headed for slaughter. He has found his "forever home" with his boy. Val Hinderlider www.breakheartranch.com If you would like to make a donation to Break Heart in someones name, we will be happy to list the gift, who to and from, with the amount if requested. We take paypal for your convenience.

Horses rescued from slaughter. Some were pregnant mares. All were good, healthy horses that did not deserve the horrible agony and pain that awaited them. I saw one older horse, that I knew I could not take home, I only had enough money to take home a few. I held his head in my arms, and crying apologized to him for his humans that had deserted him to his fate. He had done nothing wrong, except gotten older, and was disgarded like a old, rusty, broken tool. The choices I make tear me apart, some have to stay and for those, I ask forgivness for my kind.

Between a knee replacement gone wrong and unending horse rescues and problems, I have not been able to keep up with all the mail and petitions. As you all know, I will do just about anything to help animals, the earth etc. I have gotten so far behind that I am buried in messages, but I don't mean to ignore them, there is not enough time during the day or night to keep up. Some of the petitions just break my heart, and I feel so helpless. I am a horse rescue and as such, have got to try to focus. Right now horses are going to slaughter left and right. Pregnant mares, babies, weanling, good, wonderful horses. I must save what I can. So this is my petition to you my friends. I have an auction to go to tomorrow and the following two weekends. How many of you can or will donate just a few dollars, so I can save what I can?? A Care2 rescue??? If not that, will you please use Good Search, so I can get donations or buy from IGive to help??? To be very honest with you all, I am very tired. So many go through that I can't save. It tears at your heart and soul. So friends, please forgive me, if I don't answer all petitions or requests. It is not for lack of wanting too.
