Well, seen Brüno and I LOVED it! It's incredibly funny, even more hilarious than Borat. I've never laughed as much at anything, and certainly not any movie. I laughed till my stomach hurt. It's incredible and Sacha Baron Cohen's comic timing and his sheer physical comedy is incredible. That man's a genius! And brave, too... Some of those situations he got into could have truly gotten him killed or at least seriously injured.
There are so many verbal jokes, so much slapstick, unbelievably funny gags that there's not one boring moment... I really did laugh all through it and just simply enjoyed it immensely. This man who was born into a Orthodox Jew family and went on to Cambridge to study history is probably the most talented and the most courageous comedian ever lived. Five stars, and this will always be one of my favorite movies. I kept on starting to laugh on my way home from the cinema, too, remembering some of the jokes, and got some very strange looks. I especially remembered the Harrison Ford interview and the dance before it...
Caveat lector: This movie's definitely not for everyone and it may offend some people, seriously. But I truly loved it and have never laughed as much in my whole life.
Amazing!!! a wonderful film! It starts really slowly but then gains in momentum beautifully! I loved all those mythical creatures, how skillfully they were brought to life... all the animals so very real... Of the child actors, well, Lucy is a real charmed child, a born star; so genuine and expressive, and not too cute. She's got the face for the big screen -- could have made it in the mute era as well!
But most impressed I was with Edmund -- so purrfect for the role! The actor reminded me very strongly of a young Jeremy Irons, one of my all-time favourite actors. I think that if he goes on acting, he'll go far. Susan and Peter were simply good and heroic, and yes, slightly boring because of that, but well-cast.
Aslan was magnificent, very much a lion, and I lions!!! But I think that I admired most Tilda Swinton as the White Witch... What a gorgeous purrformance! And Aslan needed an opponent that's powerful as well -- and she was so cold and so evil and so lovely... That was just incredibly impressive!
All in all, a really great film! I didn't cry but I think that if I'd been alone, I would have. Still uncomfortable with crying in a public place... be it a dark movie theatre or not. I do wish I wasn't.
Oh and the faun was adorable!!!
Btw, happy holidays to all, and merry Christmas to those who celebrate it!
I saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire tonight. It is a spellbinding film, with great characters, amazing special effects, suspence, romance and charming humour. I absolutely loved it. The best parts were all the tests of the TriWizard Tournament and of course the Yule Ball, a wonderful scene. Mike Newell, the director, is a real wizard with actors, and he brought something out of Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe and the others that no previous director could. Of course, he was the first British one.
The first test with the dragon was very terrifying but at the same time beautiful cinematography. Also the maze and the task under water were frighteningly gorgeous. However, I found the scene with Voldemort a tad bit disappointing, and some other dramatic scenes were also strangely lifeless. Still, the magic made up for all of that!
The most wonderful moments were those when owls left and arrived, carrying letters, and those when the very real, genuine friendship between Harry, Ron, and Hermione could be seen -- nearly every scene with them in other words. I love the HP novels, but the movies are wonderful, too. I can really recommend this film -- do go and see it! Have a magical weekend!
