Two Tiger Cubs Born at Zov Tigra National Park

In late 2013, two tiger cubs were born at Zov Tigra National Park.

The park’s staff learnt the news in early 2014 when they found traces of the babies during a route examination. In all, there are 10 tigers at the national park now.

Director of the Primorye Territory Department of Natural Resources and Environment Alexei Pochekunin said the animals’ population had increased due to the work done at the park.

“We must focus on the results, not on the paperwork,” he noted. “The number of tigers is growing, which every Primorye Territory resident can take pride in.”

Zov Tigra National Park lies in the southeast of the Primorye Territory. It spans the Chuguyevsky, Olginsky and Lazovsky districts. The national park stretches 42 km from north to south and 39 km from west to east.

Cinderella Gets Back to Bastak

Dear friends, the good news came from Bastak Nature Reserve. The camera traps installed in the protected area took photos of Cinderella and a male Amur tiger!

According to reserve’s ranger who does the tracking of the tigress with the specialist from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WC, Cinderella recently passed through the centre of the reserve. According to the tracks she was followed by the brown bear and the male tiger.

On the beautiful island of Sumatra there is a beautiful province called Acer (pronounced ‘atch-ay &rsquo, where tigers, rhino, elephants and orangutangs live side-by-side in the Leuser (pronounced ‘le-sir &rsquo National Park and Ecosystem.

Though it’s been recommended as a potential UNESCO World Heritage site by leading scientists and the International Journal of Science, it hasn’t actually been granted this status.

The fate of this area lies in the hands of Dr. Zaini Abdullah, Governor of Aceh and you! He is under immense pressure to implement a new law that will override protected forest status and allow new roads and agricultural concessions to be built.  If this happens, not only will the world lose an irreplaceable area of prime forest but will threaten the status of all the critically endangered species that call it home.

This petition to the Governor of Acer demands that no new laws are implemented and that Leuser is officially made a World Heritage site.   Decisions on this new law will be made in the next few weeks, and affects not only the flora and fauna of the area, but the local people of Acer too.

#SaveAcer

Working together with other NGOs we believe that we can make a difference with this petition, we do not normally ask – but we’d be very grateful if you added your voice to this campaign.

#SaveAcer sign this petition to stop protect Acer’s forests and the critically endangered species that live there!

The sampler (right) was made as we started work on Lion Ark, it gives a taste of this action driven documentary following the world’s most ambitious and daring animal rescue, with a narrative meticulously compiled from interviews, conversations and the reactions of participants as events actually unfolded.

An undercover investigation by Animal Defenders International led to a ban on animal circuses in Bolivia. But the circuses defied the law. So, the team return, track down the illegal circuses and save every animal. The confrontations, heartache and incredible risks are all captured before a finale sees 25 lions airlifted almost 5,000 miles to freedom. An uplifting story of how a poor but proud country said ‘no’ to cruelty SYNOPSIS

Lion Ark was completed on 1st June 2013. We aim to launch the film on the festival circuit in the late summer / Fall. Details of screening will be announced here and on our Facebook page.

This bill would prohibit private possession of big cats except at highly qualified facilities such as accredited sanctuaries, would require any persons who currently possess big cats to register those animals with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and would outlaw the breeding of any big cat except at accredited zoos and certain research and educational institutions.

Caught in the crossfire of forest destruction and poaching, the tiger is fast slipping towards extinction. The tiger's slide is being mirrored by a rising tide of climate-related problems facing every country in the world, particularly India.

There are no federal laws in Russia that protect animals. Animals are protected only by a small section of the Penal Code. Cases of animal abuse go by unpunished and local authorities frequently slaughter hundreds of strays, breaking the existing laws and arousing mass protests. Local residents may wake up to discover the carcasses of dozens of animals on the streets, and brutal murders often occur in front of passers-by, including children and the elderly.
