This awesome cat showed up and tried to get into my house.   When I picked him up after his neuter surgery all I did was talk to him and he started "making biscuits".

He is staying at a friend's house to recover from surgery because I don't have the room, but she also has several cats and dogs so this situation is very temporary.   I don't want to just put him back outside if I don't have to. I am located in Belmont, NC. Please help spread the word. All he wants is love and attention.

3-4 year old husky female ... Stray.  Very loving, sweet temperament and laid back. Approx. 45 lbs.
Millie  Millie

JamieSmallish, young male black Lab mix picked up as stray.  Very loving and friendly.  1-2 yrs. old and maybe 30 lbs.

TuckerYoung, (1 yr old), sweet natured PB terrier.  Raised with a poodle and 2 cats.  The cats terrorized this poor guy so he is now very fearful of them ... can't even get him to walk near the cat room at the pound ... Seriously!  He was surrendered because his previous owners' landlord would not allow them to have a PB.  He is timid and gentle. Has a gorgeous soft golden and white coat.  According to previous owners, when he was a puppy he almost died from parvo.  He looks really good now. Weight = approx. 55-60 lbs.

Subject: GRANT WRITERS NEED FOR MURRAY COUNTY KITTIES
To:

Murray AC wants to place all responsibility for taking the cats out of the shelter to MURRAY COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY.  This is a small group with only 12 members, and in no way can take on such a humungous task. It is called passing the buck, and not taking any responsibility for the large numbers that are being killed there.

We need to start somewhere if we are going to help the kitties of Murray County.

Below is an e mail I received today from Angie of The Humane Society of Murray County.

Can anyone help with applying for grants for spay and neuter programs?

Rebecca,

I asked the local newspaper why they stopped publishing the euthanasia figures at the shelter and our contact said it was because the figures were inaccurate.  Our group is more than eligible for grant money but we face obstacles.  We are so few and these members are stretched to the max.  I spend my day at my full time job, caring for the pets in our foster facility and attempting to raise money to keep it all going.  It is our job to prevent pets from going to the shelter and because if this, we stay over capacity and are unable to take from the shelter.

Murray County is a rural, depressed area and you are right in that rescuing is not solving the problem.  It is extremely stressful.  We need a spay/neuter program that is free of charge...that is the only way people in this area will react.  Is there anyone that is willing to help us obtain the grant money we need to make this happen?

In “You Rescue Me” Contest, Accolades Go To The Dogs

American Dog Rescue Foundation is putting a new spin on dog rescue, with a new national contest launching January 15. The “You Rescue Me” contest is intended to celebrate man’s best friend in an entirely new way—by focusing on how dogs rescue humans, rather than the other way around.

Contestants from across the U.S. can enter by uploading a video (one-minute maximum length) of their human/dog rescue story on the American Dog Rescue Facebook page any time between January 15 and January 29, with American Dog Rescue Facebook fans choosing a winner via voting that ends February 13. The grand prize of $1,000 to the winner’s favorite animal charity will be awarded on Valentine’s Day, in honor of the love humans and canines share. Second and third prizes of $500 and $250, respectively, will be awarded to those entrants’ favorite animal charities as well.

“This contest is the perfect way to celebrate our furry friends and the unconditional love they provide us,” American Dog Rescue Foundation founder Arthur E. Benjamin said. “We’ll have a lot of fun, be inspired and most importantly give away almost $2,000 to worthy charities that help animals in need every day. I know my dogs have rescued me countless times throughout the years and can’t wait to hear many more great stories.”

All who enter the contest (while supplies last) will also receive a free DVD copy of “My Dog The Champion,” an inspirational and heartwarming new movie executive produced by Benjamin. The official DVD release date is February 4, meaning American Dog Rescue fans can get an early sneak peek by entering “You Rescue Me.” The trailer of the film can be viewed by clicking here.

Noah was dumped on 1/13 (available same day) by his owner who reported he is 15 y/o.
The wonderful shelter vet has thoroughly examined him and says he appears younger - possibly 7-8.
She sent him out for xrays for a possible leg injury; they came back negative, but Dr Y thinks whole leg not done. Here's her reports to us:

"The 15 year old has a possibly fractured leg. He is nice (does not like other cats though), but was hissing after I messed with his leg. I am sending him out to get some xrays."
"He does not look or act 15!"
"I got the xrays back. They didn't find anything. I think the fracture is in the metatarsal region (just above his foot), but they only took xrays of his upper legs.
He is still a bit painful, so I am going to have my techs place a bandage for support anyway."

"Noah's owners said he was 15. But he is very bright-eyed and otherwise looks really good. He has some dental tartar, so if his owners didn't tell us he was 15, I would have put him at 8 or 9." and "My techs were not able to place a bandage because he was not cooperative. Is there any way you can take him soon? He needs to be sedated and have complete xrays done including the distal leg and have a splint placed. I am afraid to put him under anesthesia here because of his age."
Poor guy. Senior, likely in pain, and dumped at Downey shelter. Still, he tolerates handling and has a friendly disposition.
Please pledge and network Noah!!

Hello,
This is a sad situation. The man who owned these cats became mentally ill and the house has been sold.
His family took three cats and the rest were left behind and thrown outside. The new owners are starting remodel and do not like cats and want them gone. The cats are under the house and living in the yard and scared. They will die if left there.
We still need rescue for a few more cats.  We have rescues for  5 or 6 and there are 10 in total.
According to the realtor who was a family friend and has been trying to help the cats, they are inside/outside and were friendly with the owner.  Construction is starting on the house and they need to be out this week.  Nora is trapping tomorrow night. Please can someone commit to saving a couple of these cats.  Pick up  of kitties needs to be Wednesday.
Please contact me  or Nora if you can  take one or two
Thank you
All The Best,
Christine Brown
