Here is a distressing article about Houston TX police shooting family dogs:
Are local police shooting dogs first, asking questions later? | khou.com Houston

Here is a happier article re new law in Colorado about protecting family dogs by better training of police:

One of a group of 22 seized dogs at SPCA Please contact Volunteer Leslie Keller Heinsohn if you can pull from SPCA and rescue one or more of these pitbulls. Please crosspost if you can! Adult Protective Services called the SPCA to take them from a lady's home when she was committed by her son. She has been appealing to keep them from being put to death. She would like to appeal to get at least one dog back from the SPCA but that would still leave 21 dogs who won't be given back to her. Leslie writes,
"Would be a true miracle.... but if the SPCA then allows the remaining 21 dogs to be rescued... will need a place for them to go? Would anyone like to rescue/adopt a white/tan Pittie? How about 21 of them?"
The following photo/threads are not public, i.e., they are on Facebook shared with Leslie's friends. Perhaps they will be made public or other albums, blogs or pages will be made for the 21-22 dogs. I have not yet checked the SPCA site to see if they are pictured there.

Maybe too late, but maybe not. The volunteers only have the euth list for a short time before it is curtains for the dogs (maybe cats too). Please message them per contact email address below and/or message option on their Facebook page. Thank you!

I spoke with the contact Jenny  818 381-3628 around 12:15PM 5/16. No rescues have stepped up! She will go out there again now to see if they are still alive, and also she has an appointment with a trapper named Wes at 1:30PM 5/16. A rescue group is urgently needed immediately to commit to taking them. Jenny says one is a chocolate shaggy mix something like a Cocker Spaniel, and the other is beige, short hair, squarish face not a Chi mix but maybe a Terrier or Corgi mix and similar to many pound dogs. Both are about 15-20 pounds. Hopefully the trapper will have a camera. Contact Jenny 818 381-3628 if you can be their rescue group or help in other ways.

Eldad Hagar wrote that he is travelling and his return to Los Angeles may be Wednesday. He could help capture upon his return if still needed, but hopefully they will have been captured and taken into a rescue before then.

Subject: [SRN] Update: Help needed to catch two dogs now

Two small dogs on the corner of 8th and Beacon underneath a truck.  One is brown and the other beige about 20 lbs each.  Jenny tried catching, but they are very skittish and running together.  Several people needed to catch.

People in area said the dogs were abandoned and have been in the area for several days.  She left food for them but doesn't know what to do.  Cannot catch these dogs.

Look at these adorable dogs! They need a forever home to love them http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pet/3808783971.html

Moreno Valley Animal Shelter

Moreno Valley
(951) 413-3790

Monday through Thursday 10am to 6pm
Saturday 10am to 4pm
Closed Fridays, Sundays and all holidays

When you call the shelter to ask about one of the animals above, please give the worker the THE ID NUMBER below for the animal you are interested in. You should ask if the animal is still available. If you plan to meet the animal, you should ask them to type your name and phone number in the computer on the pet's file so they know someone is interested, and will be less likely to kill it before you get to the shelter. Tell them when you think you will come meet the pet.

Sadly, this is a high kill shelter, and they also have so few workers to take care of the animals or answer the phones. Try not to get mad if they don't answer the phone, or even if they are not polite to you. Try to be patient, and try calling again in a few hours. Please do visit the shelter in person. Please don't give up. YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND/PET IS WAITING FOR YOU. DON'T LET ANYTHING STOP YOU FROM SAVING HIS/HER LIFE!

PICTURE #1:
A422701 - I am described as a male, black and white Pit Bull Terrier mix. The shelter thinks I am about 9 weeks old.

PICTURE #2:
A422822 - I am described as a male, fawn and black Pug. The shelter thinks I am about 5 months old

**PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ANIMALS ARE FOR LOVING HOMES ONLY!! They want to live indoors with you and be a part of your family. They don't belong outdoors, where they will be lonely and very vulnerable to the weather.
ALSO...POLICE ARE ON THE PREMISES AND WILL ARREST ANY SUSPECTED DOG FIGHTERS IMMEDIATELY!! THEY ARE VERY EXPERIENCED OFFICERS AND CAN SPOT DOG FIGHTERS MILES AWAY!!

You should visit the shelter's website (http://www.moreno-valley.ca.us/resident_services/animal/index_animal.shtml) to see photos of hundreds more of the great animals they have, that are in the shelter due to no fault of their own. Look for animals under Adoptable and Lost & Found. Lost & Found usually become available for adoption a few days after arrival.

Why pay a breeder hundreds of dollars when you can pay much less at a shelter and save the life of an animal that is there just because their last owner was irresponsible?. Most are great pets! Please adopt and save a life.

If your pet gets a cold after you take him home, don't be discouraged. It happens, Just go to a vet and get some antibiotics and that's it. He/she will be better soon. Make sure you learn all about how to train your animal by Googling things like potty training.

If you plan to be a responsible owner who keeps their pet indoors and treats them like part of the family, then please visit this shelter soon.

Bcc list, please cross post  A good Sam found this poor girl on the street corner yesterday.  She called animal control as she could not be the dog into her car.  The woman went by again today and this poor girl was in the same exact spot.  She was able to get this Pit into her car after multiple tries and took her to her vet where she will be boarded only a few days.  Vet says she is probably mourning her puppies and will give her medication to dry up her milk.  This girl is super friendly a deserves a second chance.  Please contact me if you can help.
