Hi, I hope everything is going wonderfully in your lives today.

Could you please spend a couple minutes lending me a hand before election
day, I understand how busy everyone is in these hectic times...

I have been collecting signatures on our little groups' (82 global
members' Climate Change Mitigation petition in an effort to reach 1000
signatures by election day...
There are only 38 signatures needed to reach our goal, but only 4 days to
go!
So close... and yet so far...

I know this is a big request, but if at all possible could you possibly
forward this message on to some of your most active friends, help us reach
our goal by Saturday... Please!

The petition is here http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/737214963
The petition feeds back to the front page of our website:
http://globalclimatechangeaction.org
Your name would be instantly visible there (unless you sign anonymously). It would be a great honour to have your name added in the final few signatures.

The Greens, the Democrats and the Socialist Alliance have all endorsed the
wording which is pasted below and can be viewed by clicking on "letter"
under our logo at the site:

Global Petition for the implementation of sustainable energy production and
living systems:

We, as global citizens, having the right to decide where our taxes are
spent, and being increasingly concerned about our taxes and research funding
being invested into subsidizing unsustainable and polluting energy
production methods which induce climate change (for example the coal and
nuclear industries) hereby request that those tax dollars and research funds
be RE-CHANNELED into sustainable energy production that will protect the
planet and benefit all its inhabitants, indefinitely.

Due to Climate Change through high levels of CO2 being released into our
atmosphere (and overwhelming information from the scientific community
confirming this) we believe that our taxes and research funding would be
better spent in reducing CO2 emissions if they were invested into clean,
sustainable energy production methods and living systems.

We believe our tax dollars and research funding, which are currently spent
on the production of energy for our use, must increasingly be used for the
development and supply of the following sustainable energy production
methods and living systems:

1. Research and development of government owned geothermal energy
production.
2. Research and development of Tidal; Wind; and Solar Power energy
production.
3. More Government-funded scientific investigations to support
infrastructure for local, clean, sustainable energy supplies.
4. The re-installment and/or continuation and/or the immediate development
of a solar energy rebate scheme and the creation of subsidies and/or rebate
scheme(s) for other alternative clean and sustainable power supply systems.
5. The development of Government funding support (at all levels) for
sustainable living education programs for individuals and families.
6. Improved and affordable family oriented local and national public
transport, funded by all levels of Government, which remain in the hands of
the people of our nation.
7. Adequate Government funding (from all levels) for the maintenance and
upkeep of our existing public transport systems and infrastructures.
8. No further privatisation of our existing rail systems and publicly owned
transport infrastructures.

We also request that taxes currently spent on scientific research into
polluting, toxic and CO2 producing industries be re-channelled into
scientific research leading to the rapid and immediate development of CLEAN,
NON-POLLUTING, SAFE and SUSTAINABLE energy production methods and living
systems.

We thank you for your attention

Dear Secretariat

I write with the future of the children of our great nation foremost in my mind, and as many polls would strongly suggest, on behalf of the majority of the people of Australia, who are against an expansion of the nuclear industry.

I believe there is no more important issue for the present and future generations as the need to commence making substantial cuts in greenhouse gas emissions as quickly and as cost-effectively as possible.

* Nuclear power plants are expensive with long, capital-intensive construction times before they generate any energy at all.

* The question of nuclear waste disposal remains unresolved.

* Taxpayer funds invested into the nuclear fuel cycle expansion will threaten funding of lesser-cost, cleaner, more flexible and more quickly implementable renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.  Thus going down the nuclear energy track will hinder, rather than facilitate the necessary speedy action required for adequate climate change mitigation and the urgent need to address a smooth transition away from an oil dependant society.

* Our energy tax dollars must be invested wisely for the long term well being of society. I strongly recommend viable and sustainable energy sources; solar, wind, tidal, wave, geothermal, these areas are where our energy tax dollars should be heading. The elements of nature can adequately provide Australians with their energy needs.

* Feeding power back into the grid from individual properties (and businesses) which run on the above "naturally abundant" types of energy will create never ending adequate energy supplies for all.

* Nuclear fuel is limited, and will run out.

* Investing into public transport systems will create a society that is not totally dependent on car ownership to remain mobile, with "peak oil" and high fuel prices at the bowser now, oil dependency is a growing global concern. Inadequate transportation systems and car dependency will cause a break down in society as we know it. It is up to our elected representatives to ensure the transition away from oil dependency is smooth.

Waging war on countries that have access to oil and the use of depleted uranium weapons in those wars is an obvious "spin off" to the nuclear cycle. The global nuclear arsenal and Australia's part in the cycle of war for global dominance must be immediately halted.

Unfortunately, with scientific concerns about "peak oil", global oil dominance will not see a solution to societies transportation needs. Oil is running out, and nuclear war will never benefit any society. Australia's leaders should be doing just that, leading its citizens down a peaceful track, which is sustainable, and provide her citizens with a smooth transition from oil dependency. Continuing to be a part of the deadly nuclear cycle of war and nuclear waste is not only foolhardy, but pointless in the long term (except of course to those who profit in the short term from the industry).

It is nearly 30 years since the Ranger Uranium Environmental Inquiry, a much broader and longer-running Inquiry than the current Inquiry, found:

  • “The nuclear power industry is unintentionally contributing to an increased risk of nuclear war. This is the most serious hazard associated with the industry”; and
  • “Policy respecting Australian uranium exports, for the time being at least, should be based on a full recognition of the hazards, dangers and problems of and associated with the production of nuclear energy, and should therefore seek to limit or restrict expansion of that production.”
I note that in the brief Issues Paper released by the Inquiry the issue of recognising externalities is raised.  All energy-producing technologies should pay the full pollution costs associated with their use.  I therefore also urge the Inquiry to recommend the removal of all externalities tilting the economic playing field in favour of polluting activities associated with energy supply.

For the above reasons I am opposed to any Australian involvement in the nuclear fuel cycle, including current uranium mining and export, and I urge the Inquiry to recommend the cessation of such activities to the Commonwealth Government.

Yours sincerely

Anne Goddard

***ACTION*** Global Petition on Climate Change Mitigation 5:51 PM

Dear Group Members

Over the last 15 years or so, I have grown increasingly concerned about climate change, seeing this one issue as the "root" of all global problems. Something of this magnitude requires more than one persons input to "solve". So, in November last year, I formed the climate change action group. In my humble opinion, this little group of global activists has grown into one of the most active and best informed groups on the web. Together we have found the wording of this Global Petition. With adequate promotion, this petition is one way to make real progress on this huge issue.

Please take a moment to sign this petition, promote it throughout your networks, friends and acquaintances.

The wording of the petition is pasted below for your convenience.

Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic participation!

Warm regards

Anne

Global Petition for the implementation of sustainable energy production and living systems

I have just joined and am slowing finding my way around "Care2".... incredible site...just fantastic!

My name is Anne, I have been committed to action on Climate Change for many years, and my work to date has finally culminated in the 3 petitions kindly housed by Care2 via their petition site.

They are letters of demand from the people of Australia to the Australian Government - for the development of sustainable energy supplies. However, the people and youth of all nations are welcome to sign. Please take a few seconds to sign one of these petition(s) (particularly if you are from Australia) if you agree with the wording.

You choose which petition you prefer, but please sign only ONE.

Petition One:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/198746899 - originating from discussions at a group i founded in Yahoo... (the Climate Change Action group) here: http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/ClimateChangeAction/

Petition Two: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/656940500 - originating from my 17 yo daughter, a petition with demands for those without a voting voice, the youth of our nation.

And Petition Three: (currently no signatures): http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/656940500 - this petition is the latest edition of the first petition (with wording that is a little more "professional"), a late submission by Peter from Tasmania and uploaded after the first petition was already "live".

I have also formed a new group here at Care2 on the topic of Global Climate Change Action, I hope you may be interested in joining. There is currently one member (me), and aparenty we need three members before the group becomes "live".

The group is here: http://www.care2.com/c2c/group/GlobalClimateChangeAction

I am also currently working on a Global Website on this issue and hope to upload the 11th draft version later on today (if all goes to plan) to the "www".

In the meantime, hi... it's nice to be here!

Warm regards

Anne
