Japanese police have arrested two Greenpeace activists for exposing a whale meat scandal involving the government-sponsored whaling programme. The two activists, Junichi Sato, 31, and Toru Suzuki, 41, are being investigated for allegedly stealing a box of whale meat which they presented as evidence.

At a hearing this morning, the "Tokyo Two" have been ordered held another ten days without charge. We are appealing that decision tomorrow. In the meantime, our lawyer believes that the number of people who have written demanding their release -- nearly 50,000 at this writing -- could help their case considerably. Please, if you have not already, take action and encourage others to do so as well: http://www.greenpeace.org/tokyo-two

This year the Fisheries Agency of Japan plans to kill 50 humpback whales on top of 50 fin whales and up to 935 minke whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

Please help me to raise money for Greenpeace in order to save the humpbacks, and all the whales in the Southern Ocean - by giving whatever you can.

Thanks!!!!!!

welcome2iceland.jpg.

Just when I thought that Iceland might actually stop whaling altogether they go ahead an announce that they will hunt whales commerically! Their new plans include slaughtering 9 endangered fin whales this year!

I feel sick to stomach just thinking about it.

Please take the Iceland Whales Pledge to show the Iceland Government how you feel. It only takes a few minutes.

Thanks
Lisa

Steve Irwin died today. He will be missed by everyone who loved his documentaries. He inspired care and appreciation of nature all over the world.

In memory of Steve I am going to make a donation to: www.wildlifewarriors.org.au

Right now the site is down - perhaps because everyone else is doing the same thing - which is good! I will try again soon.

Help Defend Whales in Iceland

Since 2003 Iceland has killed 100 minke whales under the guise of 'scientific research'.

This Thursday (23rd March 2006) Ben Bradshaw, the UK Minister for fisheries and nature conservation, is due to meet the Icelandic Minister for fisheries. It's time that Icelandic whaling was halted, once and for all. Please write to Minister Bradshaw and ask him to express the UK's opposition to Iceland's whaling programme, and ask for it to be stopped! Ask your friends to do the same.

Greenpeace are aiming to sign up one million Ocean Defenders by the end of the expedition, to bring home the message that together, we can pressure governments, corporations and the UN to respect our oceans and the people that depend on them.
