Breeding Animals Is Killing Animals
Every year, 6-8 million unwanted cats and dogs end up in animal shelters-apporoxamitly half of them must be euthanized because of one simple fact:  there are too many animals and not enough good homes.  Every time someone buys a cat or dog from a breeder or pet store instead of adopting a homeless animal from an animal shelter, a shelter animal loses a chance at finding a home-a chance at life.  And since it is virtually unheard of for breeders and pet stores to require that the animals they sell be sterilized, many will have litters of their own, creating more unwanted animals.

Goal:  A No-Birth Nation
The solution is simple:  spaying and neutering.  Spaying one female dog can prevent 67,000 births in six years, and spaying one female cat can prevent 420,000 births in seven year-animals who will never suffer, never end up abandoned on the streets, or dumped at an animal shelter.  Animals who are spayed and neutered also live happier, longer lives and are less likely to roam, fight, or bite.  Puppies and kittens can be safely sterilized at 8 weeks of age.

I recently went to peta2.com/breakshearts.com to sign a petition against animal testing.  I had no idea animals were still being tested on for hand soap, deoderant, laundry detergant, and lipstick.  Accourding to this article, animals are routinely cut open, poisened, and forced to live out their lives in barren cages.  Also, they have chemicals pumped into their stomachs, rubbed on their skin, dripped in their eyes, or forced into their lungs.  This animal cruelty is so unneccesary and others should sign the petition on the website I listed above.  Another way to help and always buy animal friendly products, meaning nothing was tested on animals.  These types of products usually have a bunny logo somewhere on the product.

Ingrid Newkirk is the founder of PETA which she started and it is now a largest non-profit animal rights organization in the entire world.  She also wrote a book called "One Can Make a Difference" which was so inspiring and moving.  PETA has had so many victories and saved the lives of thousands of animals.  I am sincerely grateful and thank Ingrid Newkirk everyday for all her animal rights work and for creating an organization that gives me a way of being active and having a voice in the cause.
