Life goes on. I am not aiming to get sympathy or a pity trip in this blog. I am just writing because I'm a bit on the bummed side, but, as always, life goes on.
I remember back when I was still talking online with Mike, aka Eurodance-addict with the IM, and he'd talked his ex wife into adopting a black kitten. Here was one of the pictures -
Cute little kitten, isn't she? This was when she was 7-8 weeks old, and right after Christmas, so we figured she was born right around Halloween (Oct. 25-31) of 2008. She didn't have a name yet, and when the bulletin came up, I'd suggested Misty. The name stuck. Well, I guess her tigress was bigger than life, and though Misty was supposed to stay with Mike's ex, she'd just rather assume kick the kitten out instead, so she sent my Misty up with him, and she'd been mine since...
Misty had fallen asleep in my arms like this a couple of times, and I enjoyed the kittiness time with her. Don't let this fool you. She wasn't like this often. 3am, she'd dart around like the Tasmanian Devil on speed, and she was insane. With sharp claws, and an attitude bigger than herself, no one was allowed to stop her or you'd get boxed. So we'd have to scold her, and Mike had a way of holding her, and she'd calm down. Then she'd come up eventually to ensure that no one was angry with her. It was cute.
We have two other cats, Missy (Missy-moo), a Bengal and Barney, a Maine Coon. Misty would instigate much with them too, and Barney, whose 8, would tolerate a lot, but would eventually put her in check. Missy and Misty would take turns baiting each other, and I swear they were just like sisters. They'd be best friends and turn worst enemies, but, they'd groom each other too, and Misty would also groom Barney, just to run across her people's feet, poking little holes in our feet...
Misty is in the window. It was her favorite place. She loved the windows, and while sometimes she took turns, other times she shared, but for the most part, when she was in the window, it was her turn.
Even with all of this going on, she'd also take part of disrupting Chad's school day by boxing pencils and what have you. Often, she had to be put in time out in our room so we could finish off the home based virtual schooling. It was comical to watch her, and with my son having ADD issues, she was just really disruptive. Since she was such a terrorist, and I mean this in the utmost respect, I changed her name... Or at least the spelling, to Miss T. T = terrorist. It fit her well.
All of this came to an end. About 10 days ago, a day or two after Labor Day she'd had an episode where she'd acted like she wanted to cough/spit up thick phlegm, and it was clear, so it wasn't infected, and she had this crazed look on her face. I didn't understand what was going on. I'd seen her do this again 2 days later. Since she appeared fine, I didn't think anything. Well, about 6 days ago, she went into full blown seizures. It started with about 1 a day, and then Tuesday, 9/14, she'd had 4 seizures, 2 before noon. They were getting more and more violent.
We researched the topic, and we went through a check list... Pesticide, automobile fluid, house hold cleaners, poisoning, etc... None were available or out. Toxic plants, rabid animals, poisonous bugs... Nope. Those which plants we have aren't accessible to our cats, since they were outside or hanging up. My other two cats are just fine, and so rabies and bugs our also out. That left inherited or congenital. We made an appointment, and Friday, September 17th @ 4pm, we had her put down. The problem wasn't getting better, it was getting worse.
The last week, no more instigating fights with the other cats. No more boxing pencils. No ornery runs through the house. My terrorist kitty was no longer acting like Miss T. Misty only wanted to eat, sleep and sit quiet in chairs and windows. As many problems she may have caused, I had a bond with her. She didn't fall asleep in anyone else's arms besides mine. She didn't play like she did with my son Chad. She didn't bat pencils with anyone else except Mike. We were her family. And we were all there comforting her at the veterinarian's office, surrounding her with familiarity. A peaceful end to an active kitten with violent seizures, that I hope no one has to see in their precious pets, who become such a big part of the family. Cat, dog, or other, these little critters make a big huge impact on our lives. Our children grow up. Our friends get busy. Our families move away. Yet we can always count on our pets to always be around for us. Please take care of them well.
I will miss having Misty greet me at the window when I come home from work. I will miss having Misty hog the bed when I need to take a break from work around the house. I will miss the odd purr/meow sound she'd make, like she didn't know how to actually meow... When petted, she'd purr like a normal cat. When she vocalized, it was this rolled lrlrlrlrow. My Halloween cat, didn't make two. We buried her at my mom's house, by the Maple tree my Chad planted there. May it grow big and beautiful.
Life goes on... my grandfather's cousin from Hungary is here in town... Mind you, his father was the eldest of 7 brothers and came to the US by himself, and so the other 6 remained in Hungary, and Maria, his cousin, is the baby of the youngest brother. She doesn't speak English much, but it's interesting... She has the same love of music and culture that my grandpa has, and they both love to laugh... Even though they're 23 years apart. My grandpa is 98, his cousin is 75. He is the oldest cousin, she is the youngest cousin, and the only two still living. Amazing.
Today, a Hungarian couple that goes to my church along with another couple who he is Hungarian, she is Lithuanian, came over and Maria had cooked a huge feast for us, Hungarian style. All hand made from scratch. Maria had gone to the couple's house, and cooked it all up, and it took her 7 hours... it was a delicious feast of rabbit stew, breaded pork cutlets, two different types of chicken paprikash (a traditional Hungarian stew), parsley potatoes, dumplings, and cauliflower. We listened to Hungarian folk music. We drank home made wine from Hungarian grapes. Hungarian chocolate. My grandpa played his harmonica. We got some pictures in too.
While we started off not feeling festive, rather than be a party pooper nincompoops, we stayed and it was rather nice that we got to visit with people we may not get so otherwise meet. When Maria goes back to Hungary, we may never see a relative from the "Old Country" again... Since it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, we must take these when they come up, life goes on, and they may never come again.
Mike got to make two more contacts, and may turn into more computer repair jobs, and more word of mouth. A busy day, with home based school with my Chad, payday and errands, an appointment for our precious Misty, and a family party that saved the day. While stressful and I hope I don't have to do this too often, I must remember that life, always goes on.
Misty, my kitty, R.I.P. And in my eyes, will always be forever young, even though pets are always kind of like our second children. Not quite being 2, forever young for sure.
I wish you enough. (A forward, author unknown)
Recently I overheard a Father and daughter in their last moments together at the airport. They had announced the departure.
Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the Father said, 'I love you, and I wish you enough.'
The daughter replied, 'Dad, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Dad.'
They kissed and the daughter left. The Father walked over to the window where I was seated. Standing there I could see he wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, 'Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?'
'Yes, I have,' I replied. 'Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever good-bye?'..
'I am old, and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is - the next trip back will be for my funeral,' he said.
'When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, 'I wish you enough.' May I ask what that means?'
He began to smile. 'That's a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone...' He paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail, and he smiled even more. 'When we said, 'I wish you enough,' we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them.' Then turning toward me, he shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory.
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.
I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.
He then began to cry and walked away.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them; but then an entire life to forget them.
* Only if you wish, send this to the people you will never forget and remember to send it back to the person who sent it to you. If you don' t send it to anyone it may mean that you are in such a hurry that you have forgotten your friends.
