I grew up Roman Catholic and therefore had to attend church every Sunday. What I decided at a very young age was that all these churchgoers who appeared to be upstanding and righteous could at times be mean as dirt outside of church. And what was worse was their indifference to the pain of others. Nothing kills the spirit like indifference, people.

So the point I am trying to make is... say what you mean and mean what you say. Have the courage to practice what you portray to the world, and not just when you have an audience. It's the greatest thing to support causes and write letters around the globe in defense of animals. Yes, it is a tremendous contribution and it makes a difference. However, if we don't do the right thing in our every day lives, (or try at least) like a simple smile at people you pass on the street or wave at people in your neighborhood or help a homeless person with a couple of bucks now and then (cuz we don't know their story) or look out for an elderly person and be an example to young people because they learn by example.....so if we can't do any of 100 things like that each and every day to improve our surroundings, then man, we are on the wrong train to making this world a better place to live. And don't ever, ever think for one moment that these small every day practices don't count, because believe it or not, we could put an end to war if we just took care of cleaning up our own backyard first.

As President John Fitzgerald Kennedy once said, "It's not what your country can do for you, it's what you can do for your country."

Thank you for reading this.
