A Call for Justice: Ecuador's Oily Tomb

From 1965 to 1993, Texaco [brand of Chevron circa 2001] spilled over 16.8 million gallons of crude oil into the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest. Not only that, but 9 billion gallons of waste product were dumped as runoff into the forest, seeping into the ground, then tributaries, and eventually the river. This last great vestige of true unadulterated nature has been treated like we wouldn't treat our worst enemy. Wouldn't you just know that they didn't clean up any of this before they left, either? However, do you want to know what the true crime is, friends? Chevron does not think that they should be held responsible for the atrocities committed by their child company. Citing an outdated, heavily biased environmental survey of the future site of the drilling areas, done before drilling operations had started, Chevron believes that the highly inaccurate findings absolve them from any wrongdoing or justice.

We are here to tell them this is not so! There will be justice! Our voice will not be denied! Nearly 1000 unlined waste pits, left behind in Texaco's haste to evacuate Ecuador, continue to seep toxic chemicals into the surrounding area and poison indigenous peoples. Instances of cancer, miscarriage, and birth defects have risen as a result of Texaco/Chevron's unwillingness to repair the damage they've caused.

Let us unite as one and demand the only sensible course of action! They think because this did not happen on American soil, we won't care and will just ignore it. Join me in pleading with the Chevron Board of Directors to take responsibility for there actions, and righting the wrongs of the past. Save the people Ecuador, before it is too late!
