What really buggers my brain though is that the Chinese cook their cats alive, every day.  They skin their dogs alive every day.  And despite this the world still buys 'Made in China/Korea or whatever.

To me this is the most disgusting apathy ever.  God will NEVER forgive us for supporting an economy that tortures animals on a daily basis.

The courts can get to this monster of a woman who baked a live cat in an oven, but only the citizens of the world can get to China and its satelite bastard countries through a total economic boycott - DO NOT PURCHASE anything made in the far east, and that includes Japan because of its whaling piracy/policies.

There is so much talk here at Care2 about making a difference, but when I see the hoo-hah about this monster vs the buying power/boycott power to save the millions of dogs and cats of the far east just going nowhere fast my heart breaks into billions of pieces.

We as people could isolate China/Korea/Phillipines/Japan within a month via a total economic boycott.  But do we have the will to do it, do we really care enough to do it?  Nope - talk is cheap.  How many of us drive Japanese cars?  How many of us wear stuff made in the Far East?  How many of the toys our children play with are made in the Far East?  How many of us actually check the labels on the stuff we buy?  How many?????

We can do so much more than just sit and type words here at Care2.  We can start a world boycott movement, by each one of us doing our bit - DO NOT SUPPORT THE FAR EAST ECONOMY!!!  And blog it all over the internet!!

These bastards spit on our petitions.  They spit, because they know we buy their goods all the time.  Every time we buy something made in the far east we support the daily torture of cats and dogs.

When last did we check the label on the stuff we buy???  How much of the stuff in our homes proudly say:  "made in China/Korea/Phillipines/Japan?  HOW MUCH?????

Uuugggh, I'm on my soap box here - madder than hell.

Consumption of cat meat

[edit] In Asia

In southern China and northern Vietnam some people consider cat flesh a good warming food during winter months. The cat's stomach and intestines are eaten, as well as meat from the thighs, which are turned into meatballs served with soup. The head and the rest of the animal are thrown away.[4] Organized cat-collectors in Nanjing's north-western suburb of Pukuo regularly ship cats to be used as food to the southern province of Guangdong where felines have become scarce due to their use as food.[5]

In Korea, Cat meat used to be boiled and made into a tonic as a folk remedy for neuralgia and arthritis, though the meat by itself is not customarily eaten.[6]

[edit] In South America

Cat is a regular menu item in Peru and is used in such dishes as fricasse and stews. Cat cooking techniques are demonstrated every September during the festival of Saint Efigenia in a town of La Quebrada.[7] In Brazil, especifically in Rio de Janeiro, there are urban legends saying that some street-made barbecue is made of cat meat, which is called "churrasquinho de gato" (literally, cat barbecue).

[edit] Europe

Historically cats have been eaten in the West. [1] In Europe, cats are eaten in some rural parts of Switzerland;[8] the traditional recipe on farms in some regions involved cooking the cat with sprigs of thyme.[9] Inhabitants of Northern Italy, particularly those of Vicenza, are still nicknamed "magnagati" ('cat eaters') as a derogatory term in Venetian. [10]

[edit] Elsewhere

Australian Aborigines in the area of Alice Springs have developed the custom of eating the cats introduced into the region by European settlers, roasting the cats on open fire and considering the dish delicious. The Aborigines have also developed traditional recipes for cat stew, and roasted cat with garlic and butter. Some other inhabitants of the area have also taken up this custom, justified on the grounds that felines are "a serious threats to Australia's native fauna". The idea is, however, very controversial in Australia, and scientists warned that eating wild cats could expose man to harmful bacteria and toxins.[11]
