For a long time meditation was a frustration to me. I would get all set up for the meditation curl up before my candle - and boom - within minutes my mind would take off like a bunch of scared rabbits. I just couldn't keep my mind settled enough to do more than maybe five minutes of meditating. Frustrating? Yes because I had always thought that to meditate our minds were supposed to be still and quiet. I spoke to my counselor last week about it and was amazed at his answer - there is focused meditating and non focused. The focused is where you focus on your breathing especially when you what to raise energy for healing or magick work. The unfocused is what you do on a daily basis to keep yourself centered and grounded. My counselor told me to let the thoughts come and go as they will, seeing them but not hanging onto them. He said that he does this twice daily - in the morning to prepare himself for the day and in the evening to cleanse his mind of the clutter of the day.

We spoke about how he had once had a great meditation session one day and was looking forward to experiencing the same the next day. To his disappointment he didn't experience that feeling again. Why? Because during that meditation and day he had grown so he couldn't go back to what was. Each and everything that we do causes us to grow - either smaller or larger so our experiences of yesterday don't fit us.

This led to the general discussion of past, present and future. We came to the conclusion that tomorrow is the future and therefore doesn't exist. Yesterday, is the past so it does exist but what about today. We eventually came to the conclusion that today is just another part of the past and future. The only time that is real is NOW in the moment that we are right now. Since NOW is eternity then we are eternal.

Will you grow during your eternity? I feel that everything we do is a growing experience. Yes a lot of the experiences hurt but like the growing pains when we were kids it is a sign of growth. Everything we do, think, feel, see, taste, hear causes us to grow. The way we react to the input of our senses is whether we grow or not. If we withdraw then we don't grow (expand). To grow we should embrace all experiences, the negative as well as the positive, To ignore the negative experiences I think we shrink or get smaller somehow.
