It's been too long since I blogged about the crazyness outside my door, but life will bite you like that every once in a while.

The current list of outrages is long and ridiculous so let me get out my cynical fork and knife and we’ll dive right in.

BP is in the top ten; poor choices, poor moves and poor Tony Hayward's chances of getting "his life back" increased as speculation mounted that he could lose his job.

Call me cynical but if he does, "resign" I'm sure he'll be thrilled with his platinum parachute. Then he can go to another company and start all over again – just don’t let him speak in public unless it’s a prepared speech with no questions afterward.

Sara Palin (well now I feel like I'm swimming in the Gulf about 60 miles out, what a greasy bad taste in my mouth) thinks we should drill more wells, preferably in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

While we are facing the greatest natural disaster in North American history she wants to destroy more of the world. Call me cynical but I think she really hates wild animals and she's getting a few more than 30 silver pieces from some company for her "drill baby drill" mantra.  Hmm could be.

Israel is painted as a Nazi country for their actions in attacking a ship in international waters.

Call me cynical but if they planned the action to maximize the damage they’d do to their reputation they couldn't have done better.  If they thought this was a great idea they need a collective brain enema.  If they didn't think that and really thought the raid would go off in their favor, they better look for a traitor in their planning and public relations departments.   If they were concerned about supplies and equipment being a front for arms they definitely needed to wait, escort the ships in and then frisk them.  Then when they went to intercept flotilla, (preferably in broad daylight) they should have had every major news organization's reporter with them to document everything. They could have been heroes and offended that their waters were violated. Gee hindsight is more than 20/20 it sucks. Israel is pretty screwed no matter what they do, but when their ultra right wing conservative religious faction insists every man, woman and child in Gaza is a terrorist they aren’t helping themselves. It’s not the reality of the situation; it’s perception that shapes world opinion.

South Carolina is at it again.  Governor Mark K. Sanford (R) is a Bill Clinton in training apparently.  He said he has been with many women but didn’t cross the “ultimate line” until he met a dear, dear friend and then after 7 years of friendship it slipped into something a little more than friendly.  Now comes word from The Palmetto Sate that state Representative Nikki Haley (R) is also embroiled in a potential scandal with not one but two men.

OH those crazy Republican kids, the shenanigans they get up to!  I guess being so repressed makes for horny, horny “servants of the people”.  What is it with that state?  Is it so boring that that's all they have to do? I seriously doubt it. Do they put hormones in the water?  Don't they know they’re already there?  But I do have to love the fact that they are equal opportunity sex scandal makers.  Guy's turn next, right?

The Catholic Church is excommunicating women.

Mercy is not strained in Shakespeare but the RC has another agenda.  The oldest of the old guard are feeling their mortality and with their ossified brains have seemingly just realized that women have developed spines and minds of their own.  Not only is there the, well the first word that sprang to mind was, abortion in Arizona and the tender mercy the RC Bishop offered when he automatically excommunicated the woman who received the abortion and Sister McBride.  Lisa Sowle Cahill, a professor of Catholic theology at Boston College, says, "The official church position would mandate that the correct solution would be to let both the mother and the child die."  Ah mercy, seems it’s reserved for men only in the RC church.  Doesn’t matter if they’re pedophiles, plain old child molesters or keep a concubine and child well hidden, paying them off for decades before getting caught.  Oh I forgot homosexual men seem to be equated to women in the RC vision of the world. Other than that it is fine do what you want – IF you’re a male.

Nashville brags about their lack of looting.

“Our flood is nothing like Katrina, we don’t loot here, well only a little.” Nashville and all of Middle Tennessee has a right to be proud of the response of its citizens who pitched in and helped friends, neighbors, and strangers.  They risked their lives in some cases and that is to be honored.  But they keep crowing about how few looters were found and how Katrina was horrible for looting. Katrina was horrible, but bragging about how much better you are than someone else isn’t cricket, and it demeans all the effort, toil and sacrifice that Tennessee’s citizens willingly gave.

Is there someone out there who's spreading bigotry and stupidity via the water?

The Montgomery county police chief has a vary valid point of view. I whole heartedly support it. His voice is logical and reasonable.  He's very definitely right and the situation from Davidson County backs it up. "Crime" in the Hispanic population here has gone down, because it's not reported, not because it really has. Now crimes that are discovered or are reported start with murder attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with intent to ... well, you get the idea.

What happened in Davidson County?  The local county sheriff, Daron Hall is an early and enthusiastic supporter of the still controversial Federal 287(g) law. He was one of the first in the nation to implement it. From the sheriff's own website comes the news that "Metro Council voted to extend an agreement with the federal government that allows the Sheriff's Office to check the immigration status of people who come through the county jail. The Council voted 34-3 in favor of extending the 287(g) program."

I am intellectually stumped as to the reason these people can't see what is really happening, but the cynical, emotional side says the following.

Hispanics are so easy to point a finger at, for some reason. It’s still all right to do that you know.  White may be all right, black is ok but brown? Get out of town.

Make sure to carry papers with you at all times, and then expect to go to jail anyway for presumed falsification of same.  Expect that a minor traffic violation, one that any one else would just get a ticket for, will get YOU thrown in jail on the presumption you are illegal, you are already in the system for previous crime and that you have forged papers.

See it's not really that it's illegal so much as driving, walking, or working while brown that's the problem.

I love the "Do I look illegal?" ads that are airing now.  It's a great counter to all this hysterical NIMBY crap.  It's not politic to express bigotry in public unless it's about illegal Hispanics.

These cretinous bigots should think if that’s possible without setting their brains on fire about, a few things.

Everybody pays taxes, everyone period. Under the table workers pay taxes. They're called sales tax, one of the most regressive taxes in the world.

No one, but no one walks into any public assistance program and automatically gets anything because they are Hispanic or from any other immigrant group period.

Want to know why I'd bet my last nickel on that?  I've had to apply for public assistance. The paperwork required is beyond ridiculous for just such reasons.  No papers no help.  Not the right kind of papers? No help. Not enough papers? No help.  So much information on so many forms was needed that I expected them to ask for my grandmother's birthmarks and locations too.

Illegal Hispanics are not wanted until the lawn needs mowing, you don't have to pay them nearly as much, what a bargain for you.

Illegal Hispanics are not wanted until the house needs cleaning, you don't have to pay them nearly as much, what a bargain for you.

Illegal Hispanics are not wanted until that patio/addition/outdoor kitchen etc. you wanted is actually being built; you don't have to pay them nearly as much, what a bargain for you.

Illegal Hispanics are not wanted until the kids or the grandparents need a nanny and you need the ego boost of being able to say you have one, you don't have to pay them nearly as much, what a bargain for you.

I'm sure I could go on for about 2 more printed pages but you get the point.

Why is it so hard to allow the extra small siphon of legal immigrants into this country to expand?  Fear because the US won't be run by white men?  About damn time.

When you corner someone who wants and need to feed their family they will do what they have to, to care for them. Are the bigots so weak they wouldn't do the same?

No I don't believe that all illegals should be automatically given citizenship.  Yes I think that criminals ALL criminals should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  For real crimes, serious crimes, not for running a stop sign on a slow down tap and go, not for littering not for anything that wouldn't count as jail time for a white with no previous record.

Reason, justice and sanity... fading daily from any where near you.

Was it when you were ripped away from Mexico by an invading white army bent on conquest and land aquisiton?

Was it when Hispanics were suddenly second class citizens having their land taken by laws designed to do exactly that?

(But then again you took all that land from the Native people of much of South America, all of Central America and much of North America. Did that make the robery any more fair? I've always wondered, are the Portuguese considered Hispanic?  They did have half of South America thanks to
Spanish-born Pope Alexander VI .)

Was it when the Government made you wait until 1912 to become "Americans"?

I wonder, before Arizona was admitted did the "citizens" of Arizona  have to have papers to enter the United States? Were they illegal if they didn't?  Finger pointing sucks when it's pointed at you doesn't it?

Didn't we show you enough love?  We force the Native Americans on to small areas of the worst land for you.

We helped to keep Hispanics down with Federal Discriminatory Laws.

When civil rights became the law, it only applied to black people, right?  It didn’t count for any other group, right?

Maybe it is the harsh sun beating down on Anglo brains for so many years.

Maybe it's fear that as you once treated anyone not "white" so will you and your descendants be treated as Northern Europeans become a minority in this country.

Time to use the smelling salts and come to your senses. The more you oppress people the more they will oppress you when the chance comes. The more you work with and bridge divides the less fear you should have. Check world history out, use several sources that aren't on the internet and don't have any ax to grind.  Think instead of react.

It is time for all the little groups that humans divide themselves into to feel they are superior, that they belong to join into one big group. Stop pointing fingers that say it is THEM not US and because it's not us THEY must be bad criminal, lazy, stupid or what ever you tell yourselves to keep your feeling of superiority alive. Hey, it happened to your ancestors, jut getting back some of your own is ok, right? An old saying, “When you point a finger at someone else, there are three pointing back at you."

Calling all humans, time to stand up and be counted.

We have learned, a bit to late in the day, that action springs not from thought but from a readiness for responsibility.....Silenc e in the face of evil is of itself evil.  Not to speak is to speak.  Not to act is to act.
