On June 4, 1989, Chinese army troops stormed Tiananmen Square in Beijing to crush the pro-democracy movement; hundreds - possibly thousands - of people died.
Hard to believe it's been 21 years since it happened isn't it? For some on Care2, a life time or more.
21 years later, China still hasn't made public the official or officials who ordered the troops to attack. They do however continue to crack down on dissidents. Dissidents are frequently jailed for crimes that aren't crimes in the west and for very long stretches of time.
Stop if you would some time today and think about this, we are in a very delicate place. As of midnight June 4 GMT our debt was $13,065,613,279,513.50. That's $13 trillion. It boggles my mind. It is equavalent to 89% of the Gross National Product. To get rid of the deficit completely would cost America so much money this depression would look like a snap.
If you go to this site, it will show you how much debt we owe to every other nation, but most especially China and Japan.
Realistically they own the US. Think about it. Then start going through the budget item by item and figuring out what the heck it means and how much it really means. Publish it here, on any blog you have, any resource to let more people know.
If we all start looking and translating into actual English, who knows, we might all agree to bite the bullet on certain items in the short run to pay down debt for the long run.
Who knows what will happen if they decide to pull the plug on those loans?
