Burma: US Official P J Crowley, Open Mouth Insert Foot.

You have to wonder where this and other US political officials get their intelligence reports since it is obvious their sources are either woefully misinformed or are working directly for the junta. It is common knowledge Burma’s generals are under orders to fake retirement in order to play the 2010 Election charade in an attempt to legitimize the criminal regime of Than Shwe. Where were these politicians in 1990 when a landslide victory by the opposition elected Daw Aung San Suu Kyi? Why all of a sudden do these misinformed politicians want to open their mouths without knowing or caring for the real facts? How far beyond stupid is that?

Senator Jim Webb made an almost unforgivable error when he went to Burma to free the “Bonehead of the Lake” John William Yettaw. Then Webb horribly misquoted Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and even raised her ire when he went on to bad mouth China in her presents. Don’t get me wrong, Jim is a decorated Viet Nam veteran and has done many good things within his constituency but his trip to “save” a common criminal who should have spent time in jail was not one of them. It became clear he was totally misled by his intelligence sources. The fact about “Yettaw’s Bogus Adventure” spelled a very dark and calculated plot by the junta to keep Daw Aung San Suu Kyi out of the political arena. Yettaw succeeded in ruining any chance the National League for Democracy and the people of Burma had for reconciliation.
Senator Webb was merely a patsy and ultimately the fall guy for this horrific misadventure. Now J.P. Crowley has inadvertently taken up the reigns on behalf of the junta to legitimize a bogus election and a criminal regime. What are you thinking?

Legitimizing the election in light of all the junta chicanery and rigging of the pending election should have been a major red flag for any US politician provided they were paying attention. The obvious “retirement” of Thein Sein and other generals should have spelled the true nature of the election. The junta will maintain control regardless of who wins the election and that is the bottom line. J.P. Crowley only fanned the flames of legitimizing not only the election but also the criminal regime of Burma with his banter about the positive side to the general’s retirement. Rather than douse a fire with water he dumped a bucket of gasoline on raging flames. You must wonder what these politicos are thinking but maybe someone should get him a subscription to the Irrawaddy, Mizzima or other Burmese publications so they can get their facts straight. Even I have people on the ground inside of Burma that either verify or disclaim news stories that reach the west. Fact is I have them all over the country. Surely a US Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs would have sources as well. Or does this spell a much darker agenda? One thing is for sure, the fate of Burma rests on the shoulders of her people since it is obvious the outside world is impotent at this juncture, as usual. Petitions, sanctions, letters of disdain and everything else nations and groups have done resulted in absolute failure. Like it or not Burma has nothing, zilch, nada to show for all these fruitless efforts and that’s the bottom line. The struggle for Burma’s liberation is not about feel good speeches and petitions. The people of Burma head and read about them ad nasueam already.

Only from within Burma and surprisingly the Tatmadaw will salvation come because this is Burma’s destiny. When she wins back her nation from the scurrilous thugs who’ve tortured, raped and murdered their own people I hope she remembers all the other people who’ve betrayed her in her hour of need. Burma’s liberation is just around the corner and there is no force that can stop the inevitable collapse of Than Shwe’s criminal regime. Not even the words of a misguided politician.
