With the majority of the Tatmadaw sickened by the criminal regime of Burma it is clear they vastly outnumber Than Shwe’s criminal ruling class. The regime came full circle and has begun to feed on their own. Members of Than Shwe’s loyal inner circle are making false claims against fellow generals and commanders in an effort to garner favor and a piece of Burma’s assets. Sadly for Than Shwe, even within his inner circle there is division with people waiting for him to die. With trust and loyalty relegated to an absolute minority of the military it is obvious they are totally outnumbered. The complete collapse of the Than Shwe dynasty would have the unbridled support of both the people of Burma and 90% of the military.
There would be resistance from corrupt businessmen, drug dealers and criminals Than Shwe supported over the years for spying and murdering but they have been clearly identified by the people of Burma. The “snitch” rickshaw drivers who spied for Than Shwe are known by the surviving victims they’ve betrayed. People who’ve languished in finery while others suffered have become marked for revenge since the people remember what they did during Than Shwe’s reign. Proponents of Than Shwe mandates have shown where their loyalties lay long ago and these ranks include religious figures from Christians, Muslims and Buddhists for they were Than Shwe agents in disguise all along. They simply played both sides for privilege, personal comfort and financial gain. Only those who’ve betrayed their fellow countrymen were given a taste of luxury and their days are numbered as well. The bogus 2010 election proposal had a positive effect since it identified those who side with Than Shwe.
Than Shwe has continued a secret investigation to identify anyone within his ranks who could pose a threat to his regime. Again, it is comical since he continues to shuffle and reshuffle his inner circle as well as pose more restrictions on his own generals and commanders. The joke is on him since there is no escaping his destiny for he has already been betrayed by some of his key operatives within his inner circle. Generals and commanders from all quarters of Burma have already spoken of amnesty whence the inevitable international tribunal comes to pass. They are eager to testify and want to clear their conscience. Than Shwe’s only alternative to facing a trial for crimes against humanity is death before he is arrested. Chances are he will choose the coward’s way out, suicide. When it all comes down to it, he will leave his family and allies to fend for themselves.
Than Shwe’s futile attempts to keep people at odds with one another via his series of bombings backfired dismally. He sacrificed his own officers in the process showing assassins he would kill them if needed to legitimize his criminal acts. The murder of Chinese workers did not bode well with China either. Others who were aware of Than Shwe’s elaborate plot where horrified by their leaders callous act as well. Enough people have come to realize Than Shwe would stoop to any level to achieve his personal goals and now they fear for their own mortality. Ironically it is these criminal acts against the Tatmadaw and allies that has tipped the scale against his criminal regime by his once staunch supporters and officers. The internal strife that has festered within his Tatmadaw has gone beyond the point of no return. He has placed himself in a lose, lose situation since he made many promises over the years to his inner circle and only kept a fraction of them to the chagrin of his generals. Tay Za and his ilk have become marked men for the seed of jealousy has blossomed into hatred and revenge. In fact everyone Than Shwe blessed with riches has become targets for death from a multitude of sources within the military. Than Shwe’s “Midas Touch” has become the mark of scorn and death. Foolishly supporters still flaunt their alliance with Than Shwe and unwittingly marked themselves for retribution.
It is laughable to note much of the bloodshed that will soon transpire will be from within the military as they reign revenge on those Than Shwe favored. What comes around goes around and I don’t have sympathy for them since they made a deal with the Devil and it is time to repay the debt, with interest. Than Shwe’s contract with evil is already reaping dividends and there is nothing he can do to stop his destiny. The price for betrayal is betrayal and as the ole saying goes, and eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.
