By Kim Kapilovic / 3TV producerMaricopa County Animal Care and Control is on a winning streak. They're winning the battle against euthanasia. The animals are now surviving in shelters. For almost two years now, workers have not had to put down any healthy animals. MCAAC is one of the largest in the country, taking in 55,000 animals every year. The good news is 45 percent of them will be saved this year. "We're looking for another family pet," Christina Martinez said. "Someone stole our dog a few months ago and the kids need a family pet." It's people like that who are helping save lives. "Well, I guess a little more than the last 18 months now we have not had to euthanize any of our healthy animals that come in to our shelter," said Aprille Hollis, a spokeswoman. Between 10,000 and 15,000 dogs are adopted out every year and Hollis said a lot of that has to do with the rise of animal-care groups. "We have a bunch of really good partnerships with what's called our New Hope groups and the New Hopes come in and basically take animals that we call treatables," she said. "They just need a little more TLC to get better to be adoptable." And that gives the healthy animals inside the shelter a longer stay, giving them a better chance at getting adopted. But they still have to put down the animals they deem unhealthy or nonadoptable. "We get a lot of animals that have been on the street too long and behaviorly they're just shot," Hollis said. "There is no hope to make them adoptable." Some injured and vicious animals also get put down, but that's not all. "We get a lot of animals. -- puppies and kittens -- that are so small, that haven't been weaned from their parents yet, their mom yet, and there's no way for us to take care of them in this facility," Hollis said. About 28,000 animals will still have to be put down this year, but that's down from a little more than 30,000 last year, but 45 percent will be saved this year. The best way to prevent euthanasia is to license your pet and have them spayed or neutered. The cost is $85 for dogs and $65 for cats for spay, neuter, shots and a license. How are you all? I sincerely hope the answer is well, and very ready, because I write to you today to beg for your help. I just received notice that the 14th panther has been killed, and I am going out of my head with this already. We are watching a majestic and noble animal go extinct right under our noses, and I don't know what it is with Care2 but for some reason it seems the Panthers don't deserve a measly 3000 signatures. You my friends are the ones I know can affect people, and I am asking now for your desperate help in doing everything possible to get the petition
filled so I can forward it to the Governor. He will act if he sees how many people from so many places are seriously worried about this beautiful unique big cat, I also ask that if you like you can even write to him yourselves, he is very open to the people and he does take everything into great consideration ( http://www.flgov.com/contact_form ). Please, whatever you can do, whatever you can think of, I will be in your debt forever. I am broken hearted and my brain has been pushed to it's limits. I have tried and tried and I can't seem to affect anyone in Care2, it's like they don't care. Thank you for your consideration, I am grateful for anything and everything you can do. God bless, Ceci Here is today's story and the link: Panther found killed by vehicle on U.S. 41 By news-press.com Originally posted on June 27, 2007 A dead Florida panther was found today in Miami-Dade County on U.S. 41 a mile east of Krome Avenue, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials.
The panther was apparently killed by a vehicle. It is a 120-pound male estimated to be about 4 years old. It did not have a radio collar or transponder chip.
While the panther was reported at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, authorities did not find the panther until 11 a.m. today.
I probably won't be online again today because I am beyond depressed, and I can barely see the keyboard anymore, I hope you understand if I don't get back to you until maybe tomorrow. I will try my best, even though I am now terrified of even logging on because I am afraid to read of another's death. You all know me, some better than others, and know I am fully devoted to saving and helping ALL animals and have been for over 20 years, I never thought I'd see the day when this horror would actually come to life in front of my eyes. So I thank you again for your kindness, whatever it is you decide to do.

PLS. READ AND HELP. JUSTICE TO BE MADE FOR "PEPPER" AND HER FAMILY. LET US ALL SAY "NO" TO UN-FAIR DECISION ... PLEASE, IT IS SIMPLE AND FAST ! THANKS,agnesC
As a personal favor to me, please read Pepper's story, and sign her guestbook - this is a sweet lamb that was born while her mother was on the way to the slaughter house, 6 years ago.
Pepper would have been slaughtered with her mom if not for the Angelman's (friends of my family).
She lives a beautiful life now, and a person moved in next door whose 2 large dogs bark at Pepper through her fence, which irritates the neighbor, so he has abused his influence as a cop to get Pepper's legal status changed, and now the family is being forced to give their baby up, probably to beslaughtered.
Folks, where Pepper lives is FARM country!
Please read the story and sign the guestbook (you don't have to leave your email if you don't want to), as this goes before City Council July 9th.
She has even been the lamb in the Nativity scenes for the town! Just read for yourselves, I'm too mad! -
By the way, officer Wentz did NOT want it known that he is a cop and used that to get his way, but fact is fact.
Let's show them that Pepper has A LOT of friends!!

This very sweet, calm, friendly girl has been at the Kingsville pound since May 31. After her ten day hold was up, she was "tagged," giving her an additional 30 days. That hold is up on Monday, July 1. If she's not rescued by then she will be gassed. Please take another look and crosspost far and wide. She's really a sweetie! Thanks! http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=8489610
