National Boycott To Impeach for Peace - Tax Day (April 15) 'til Earth Day (April 22)
>
> The organizers of the boycott have recognized the fact, that our elected representatives have been unwilling to move forward on the public's overwhelming demands for impeachment and an end to the war in Iraq.
>
> This boycott is a way of unifying the opposition to the Bush Administration; and according to Dr. Peter Phillips, who was the first to propose the idea in December,
> "could well be the straw that broke the camel's back".
>
> The boycott has been called in response to the statement by the new Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, that the issue of impeachment was "off the table".
>
> One of the leading researchers into the agenda and actions of the Bush Administration, Dr. Peter Phillips, the Director of Project Censored at Sonoma State University, proposed a new tactic in the ongoing campaign to hold the administration, their neo-conservative backers, spin doctors, consultants and henchmen accountable.
>
> It is the belief of the organizers that this Administration must be held to task for the host of charges that have been levied against them. Dr. Phillips, a professor of Sociology, has spent his professional career investigating the origins and purposes of the "Power Elite" in general, and neo-conservatives in particular.
>
> Phillips struck upon the use of a boycott as a means to draw together all of those who oppose this administration and their policies. We can not simply rely on the work of progressive activists. We must bring together all citizens who feel strongly that crimes have been committed and an accounting is due.
>
> A boycott is simply a form of non-violent resistance. By simultaneously withdrawing our support from the economy, millions of people can have a dramatic impact on the policies of individual corporations and
> even national governments. In 1990, ACT-UP staged a boycott of Phillip Morris that resulted in providing millions of dollars for AIDS research.
>
> In 1994, a boycott waged against Shell Oil, Kellogs and Coca Cola, helped to increase the momentum of the anti-apartheid movement. In 1995, the International Peace Bureau called for a boycott of all French products in oppositioon to nuclear testing.
>
> The French wine industry was especially hard hit and the threat of "economic disruption" spurred President Chirac to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. National polls now show that well over half of ALL Americans believe that this administration should be impeached. A much higher percentage want to see this war end and virtually everyone wants to know the truth behind the events of the last 7 years.
>
> What the people want, and what they get, can be two entirely different things if left up to the consideration of career politicians.
>
> The marches, books, movies, lectures and petitions all speak directly to the politicians...and they aren't listening. So let's put pressure on the people they do listen to 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
>
> The boycott provides us with a way to send a wake-up call to the corporate backers of our political leaders. America, holding back on our spending for even one week will show the corporate powers that the
> people are serious, we are determined and "We're not buying it anymore". To that end, we are building a network of individuals and organizations from coast to coast and around the world to support this action.
>
> By uniting the work of so many millions of people into a single week of protest in which we make sure that the money talks loud and clear, we can give fair warning to our representatives that the time for truth has come, justice is demanded and a full accounting is expected from Washington and Wall Street

> Bush's advice after 9/11:
> "I encourage you all, to go shopping more."
>
> Our Response:
> We Are NOT Buying It!
>
> The Top Charges Against The Bush-Cheney Administration:
>
> 1. Boldly lying to Congress to start the war in Iraq
> 2. Use of "signing statements" to expand executive power
> 3. Authorizing the use of torture in violation of the Geneva Convention.
> 4. Authorizing the intelligence community to spy on American citizens without due process.
> 5. Failure to respond to warnings from the intelligence community about the 9/11 attacks.
> 6. Failure to respond to warnings regarding imminent levee failure in New Orleans, and grossly mishandling emergency response to Hurricane Katrina; costing the lives and property of thousands.
>
> Of course there are many other reasons to be alarmed by the behavior of this administration: Refusing to entertain even the objective results of hard science in regards to any policy they propose, appointing ideologues in every agency in the government to stop any work that may be protecting the people from corporate predators, engaging in generally ruthless and underhanded tactics to maintain their hold on power including the use of outright propoganda and disinformation. But perhaps the clearest clue of all as to the goals of this administration lie in the direction their policies have taken our nation, and the world, over the last 7 years. Global war, the subversion of the Constitution and the barrage of "reforms" that have the effect of leaving us all at the mercy of those who will only use their wealth to turn the world into a poisonous and desolate wasteland.
>
> Consumers are asked to withhold their spending for seven days, beginning on Sunday April 15 and lasting until Sunday April 22, 2007.
>
> Do NOT shop corporate outlets
>
> Minimize use of oil and gas.
>
> Carpool: bus, bike or walk.
>
> If you buy, BUY LOCALLY.
>
> Plan Ahead and Stock Up
>

> By submitting this form, I understand myself to be taking a pledge, to join forces with WeAreNotBuyingIt.Org and the National Boycott to Impeach for Peace.
>
> I will do what I can for this initiative, and do solemnly commit my support.

MY PERSONAL ADVICE: THINK ABOUT THIS FOR AWHILE, TALK ABOUT IT WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS, both on and off of Care2!, SIGN THE PLEDGE IF YOU REALLY MEAN IT, DON'T TAKE THIS LIGHTLY!!!
IT IS A WONDERFUL IDEA IF IT REALLY TAKES OFF LIKE THE SUPPORT FOR HOWARD DEAN ON MOVEON! AND IT COULD!

THIS IS ALSO BECOMING AN INTERNATIONAL MOVEMENT, AT LEAST IN ENGLISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES!
SO PLEASE THINK AND TALK ABOUT IT; there is more at the site, free posters to download, etc.
If not in the U.S., please consider passing it on to your friends in English-speaking countries, U.S., Britain, Australia, Canada, etc. -- or think of other means of support!!!!!!

Thank you all for considering this and for any support you feel you can give! This will work BETTER than any election possibly could! If we bring it off!!!
