15 MILLION TO SELL IRAQ WAR ON TV BEFORE NEXT SEPTEMBER 11TH

........now the Democrats, along with wavering Republicans, will face an advertising blitz from Bush supporters determined to remain on offense. A new pressure group, Freedom’s Watch, will unveil a month-long, $15 million television, radio and grass-roots campaign today designed to shore up support for Bush’s policies before the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, lays out a White House assessment of the war’s progress. The first installment of Petraeus’s testimony is scheduled to be delivered before the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs committees on the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, a fact both the administration and congressional Democrats say is simply a scheduling coincidence.

The leading Democratic candidates for the White House have fallen into line with the campaign to praise military progress while excoriating Iraqi leaders for their unwillingness to reach political accommodations that could end the sectarian warfare.

Group to Urge War Support
By THE NEW YORK TIMES
Published: August 22, 2007

WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 — A new group of prominent conservatives plans to begin a multimillion-dollar advertising campaign Wednesday to urge members of Congress who may be wavering in their support for the war in Iraq not to "cut and run."

The group, Freedom's Watch, is rolling out television, radio and Internet advertisements in more than 20 states and 60 Congressional districts.

Ari Fleischer, President Bush's former press secretary and a spokesman for the group, said it would initially spend $15 million on the effort, which will also encourage voters to put pressure on their representatives for continued support of the war.

Mr. Fleischer declined to say in an interview Tuesday which members of Congress were on its list, but he indicated that it would include some Republicans as well as Democrats.

Mr. Fleischer said the central message of Freedom’s Watch is that “the war in Iraq can be won and Congress must not surrender.”

The advertisements feature Iraq war veterans and parents of veterans who lost family members in the war urging lawmakers who have supported the war not to switch their vote.

The Voters Peace Pledge is an effort to count, organize and make visible the emerging anti-war voting block and to speak with a united voice of conviction which candidates and incumbent politicians CANNOT AFFORD TO IGNORE. Imagine headlines saying 2 million have pledged to vote for peace candidates in 2006! A March, 2006 poll showed that tens of millions of Americans agree with the Peace Pledge. Voters For Peace is committed to get the word out to legislators, the media and the general public that peace voters will not be taken for granted in future elections. Voters For Peace urges you to take a clear stand and let politicians know they cannot take your vote for granted but instead have to earn your vote. Please sign the following pledge.

"I will not vote for or support any candidate for Congress or President who doesnot make a speedy end to the war in Iraq, and preventing any future war of aggression a public position in his or her campaign."

With public opinion shifting from support for the war to calls for immediate withdrawal, the news media has an obligation to reflect on the role it has played in building a pro-war consensus with false and deceptive reporting. Many media organizations have published “mea-culpas” admitting “mistakes” and “flawed reporting,” but the problem goes deeper and is ongoing. The coverage remains one-sided and excludes anti-war voices from citizens and anti-war groups all over the world. We need real journalism, not jingoism.

It's Time to Make the US Media Accountable!

If you want to go even farther..........

“If a thousand [people] were not to pay their tax bills this year, that would not be a violent and bloody measure, as it would be to pay them and enable the state to commit violence and shed innocent blood. ”
—Henry David Thoreau, during Mexican-American War of 1846-48
..... opposition, however, is not limited to this one instance of armed aggression by our government. As citizens of this country, we are compelled by conscience to speak out against, and avoid cooperation with, that which has allowed this and other instances of military aggressions to occur and which makes likely further military aggression against other nations.

It is clear that the U.S. government's ability to threaten, coerce, and, if deemed necessary, make war on other nations is a direct result, not only of our economic might, but also the unprecedented size of our military arsenal, which is now far larger than that of all our allies and "enemies" combined. It is equally clear that the maintenance of this arsenal depends upon the willingness of the American people — through their federal tax payments — to finance it.

Refusal to pay taxes used to finance unjust wars, along with refusal by soldiers to fight in them, is a direct and potentially effective form of citizen noncooperation, and one that governments cannot ignore. War tax refusal has a long and honorable tradition among religious and secular opponents of war.

The Troops have to LAY DOWN THEIR WEAPONS, knowing that this is the TRUE patriotism -- TO STOP ACTING AS HIT MEN AND HIT WOMEN FOR THE BUSH-CHENEY CABAL.

I mean every single word of this.

The troops must STOP LAYING THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE FOR BUSH-CHENEY AND BIG OIL; AND START LAYING THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE FOR THEIR FAMILIES, THEIR COMMUNITIES, THEIR COUNTRY, FOR YOU AND ME -- INSTEAD.
