Help Save Minority Fellowship Programs

Take Action!

Unique Tool Helps Create Diversity in Addiction Services

In addition to its attempts to cut Recovery Month from the federal budget, Congress is now discussing the elimination of the Minority Fellowship Program as well. The Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) is run through the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration and provides grants to minority students seeking advanced degrees in addiction treatment or behavioral health. Since the program was created in 1974, it has helped expand and diversify the behavioral health workforce by training 1,000 ethnic minority psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers and marriage and family therapists.

Too often there is a cultural disconnect between addiction professionals and their clients. The prevention and treatment workforce needs highly qualified people from traditionally underserved communities in order to provide the highest level of care possible to all those in need. The Minority Fellowship Program is a critical step towards narrowing this gap and deserves be expanded, not eliminated.

Please take a moment to send an e-mail to your Members of Congress asking them to save the Minority Fellowship Program. Just click the link at the following link it is really easy to take action. Thank you Mark
