We have learned, a bit to late in the day, that action springs not from thought but from a readiness for responsibility.....Silence in the face of evil is of itself evil.  Not to speak is to speak.  Not to act is to act.

What is love?

In your relationships do you love another for what they provide you with either mentally, emotionally and/or physically?

If that person no longer provides you with any of the above do you continue to love them?

Is it love that you feel for them or gratitude for having your needs met?

Have you ever loved another simply because they exist, that they are?  Someone who can give you nothing in return or meet any need?

Did you have children to meet your own needs?  To have someone there to take care of you in your old age? So you wouldn't be lonely? So you would have someone to love you?

It is important to our personal growth that we understand why we do things.  What are motivations are.  To look at ourselves no matter what we might see and take the steps necessary to become the person we were meant to be.  It is important that we be honest with ourselves and with others.  That we recognize destructive acts so that we can change those acts into constructive ones that will lead us to wholeness.

We can't have lasting change in the world until we start changing ourselves.

Blessings,

Martha

be·lief

 noun \bÉ™-ˈlÄ“f\

: a feeling of being sure that someone or something exists or that something is true

: a feeling that something is good, right, or valuable

: a feeling of trust in the worth or ability of someone

www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/belief

While many of us have strong beliefs, myself included, we must recognize that just because we believe something to be true, without evidence of that truth, what we believe remains conjecture.

The problem with religious beliefs based upon a religious text is that to use that religious text as supporting evidence that ones belief is valid the other parties involved must accept that the text is true and accurate, that it is acceptable evidence.

Quite often the Bible is used as supporting evidence.  The problems that I have with this is that the Bible was written by men, has been translated many times and even when an individual tries not to put his own "spin" on the interpretation unconsciously that "spin" does occur not to mention those who would deliberately change an interpretation to suit their agenda.

The evidence has not shown the Bible to be the word of God and even though some of the history in the Bible may correspond to an actual event, that does not mean that the entire text is evidentiary.

When discussing in various forums ones opinions on a topic it is perfectly fine to declare ones position based upon ones beliefs and we should all respect ones right to hold those beliefs, but it is not appropriate to accuse or denigrate others for not having the same belief.

We all have the right to believe or not believe as we so choose. Who is to say who is right and who is wrong without supporting evidence?  If we do not permit others to hold their own beliefs what right do we have to our own?

Blessings,

Martha

My formative years were the years of cultural revolution.  While I was too young to participate in the marches and the protests I was there in spirit because I profoundly believed in the rightness of the freedoms that were being fought for and the corruption that young people sought to overthrow.

Music was not only the result of this era but also the driving force behind it.  The songs of protest from that period are near and dear to my heart.

There is a segment of today's youth who have attempted to adopt the years of the beatnik/hippie/yippie culture of the late 1950's through the mid 1970's. Drugs, sex and rock-n-roll. Assassinations, beatings and killings for ideals and for supporting the freedom of others were also a huge reality.  What is overlooked by the hippie wannabes is that in this time in history there was profound change in attitudes not just about the Establishment and authority but a time when the ideals of peace, harmony and love were the rallying cry. A time of the overthrow of conventionality and it's inherent corruption, of McCarthyism, and of the rise of equal rights for women, civil rights and peace instead of war. A time when young people rose up and wanted something better, something different, something more humane. There was a segment of youth who worked for a greater good not just of "turning on, tuning in and dropping out".  Even though the end was not as we would have hoped those of us who worked for change, for equal rights, the environment, a better world; we are still trying because we believe that there is something worth fighting for bigger than ourselves and that in some way either big or small we can make a difference. If those who want to be a part of that era, that period of rebellion against the corrupt, the destroyers, stand with those who tried not to destroy themselves but chose to work toward the changes they wanted to see. Changes that would bring about peace, justice and a sustainable world. Live a life of purpose.

Ever since I can remember I have had an interactive relationship with a higher power which I will refer to as the Creator.  Even though I was raised a Roman Catholic I found organized religion, any organized religion, too narrow in its beliefs, hypocritical and shallow.  While the teachings of Jesus are true for the most part to what I believe, I do not call myself Christian.  Christianity to many as well as myself, has become synonymous with abuse, intolerance, and deceit.

I can remember one evening when I was very young sitting on the swing in our yard all by myself and singing as I swung my thanksgiving for all the things that I was grateful for to the Creator. It took quite a while if memory serves.  Also at a very early age, certainly before the age of ten in one of my frequent conversations with the Creator, offering to serve in any way that I could.  I have since been taken up on the offer and at times I have wondered "what was I thinking?"Laughing  I started volunteering when I was eleven, became a nurse and a respiratory therapist, a teacher, a counselor, and a defender of human rights, animals, and the environment to name a few.

Even though conversations with the Creator have been a daily part of my life my belief is that more is required.  It is not enough to talk the talk, one must walk the walk.

Even in the various periods of my life when I have been in such anguish for what I have lost that the only conversations I had with the Creator were ones filled with anger, when I was so far from that Power that I considered that I may just be delusional, my life experience has been proof to me that there is a Creative Power and that I live an interactive life with that Power.  My belief is based not only on what I feel deep inside to be true but upon my experiences demonstrating that my truth, my belief, is very real.

My spirituality is the driving force that propels me to try and make this world a better place and no matter what hurdles are presented for me to overcome I am determined to find a way to keep moving forward.  I don't want to have anything left unused when my time comes to leave this world.  It should all have gone for the greater good even in death.

In this blog I will share my truth and hopefully answer some "whys".

Blessings,

Martha
