Please sing the Animal Asociation petition here:

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/876674621

Mr. Major:
The animal traction vehicles are associate  social , environmental,  security, public health and urban problems. The hiorses are abused, and this problematic  has never had  the necessary attention.
Within the many barbarisms which these animals are put under  we can find:
* Constant work during days that go from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. or 24 hours, because they are rented, a wagon by day and another one at night.
* Long wprk days, they must drag carts loaded from the north of the city to the south.
* Difficult and dangerous maneuvers in the city like raising and lowering to bridges, crosing  avenues,  avoiding  hollows and culverts without cover, etc.
* Overload. A horse in average can drag 600 kilos, that includes the cart and maximums 2 occupants. Nevertheless in Bogota to newspaper horses are observed dragging rubbish, heavy pieces, bulks of food and with more than 3 people on board.
* Terrible feeding. Sometimes single cradle in carrot.
* Bad ironworks. They adapt the helmet to the horseshoe and not it horseshoe to the helmet since it must become.
* Set of teeth damaged due to the diet little balanced that is offered to him.
* Blows, striker pins, cut and burns like method to make them walk when the animals are exhausted.
* Carts without matriculation and the basic elements that must take all vehicle.
* Skind hurts
* Total negligence on the part of the wagon, they just dont care about the  animal health
* They die  because of the imprudence of the wagon, which do not respect crossings, signalings, traffic lights nor other vehicles.
* Pregnant females on the verge of give birth or just very young or very old
*  In isolated cases, they have been used to rob houses in some districts
* Some die in clandestine slaughter houses, where the animal  is sold at  ridiculuos low prices. This meat is resold by very low prices in slaughters of surrounding districts to the urban perimeter.
The carts would have to be within the "Movility Plan"  of you, Mr.  Major  Garzón,  most of the times  causing turnpikes in  Bogota. In addition they leave very bad image of the capital, which is in sights to become a modern large city.
To the people who handle these vehicles the State has not fulfilled the obligation to offer better and worthy job  opportunities, accordding  to the policy of the Greater Mayor of a Bogota "WITHOUT INDIFFERENCE".
These beautiful animals were created by the nature…
* To be enslaved?
* To haul carts all the day?
* To walk by car routes?
* To live surrounded by vehicles?
* To breathe the smoke of the cars?
* For being objects of our abuse?
For that reason the people signing  this  petiiton on line, demonstrate  how worried  are  thousands of foreigners and Colombians about  animal welfare in this city, for that reason we hoped that  your  answer  is soon and provide s solution for this problematic.

Help stop the Mexican wolf slaughter!

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is destroying yet another family of Mexican gray wolves – even though the agency has identified the species as the most endangered mammal in North America. The male of the recently released Nantac Pack was just shot and killed, and the female is being hunted down right now. Both members of this pack were survivors of past predator control actions.

In 1996, an environmental analysis of the Mexican wolf reintroduction program projected that the population would reach at least 100 animals by the end of this year. However, it is believed there are presently fewer than 40 grown wolves in the wild plus an unknown number of pups born this year.

The federal predator control program wiped out wolves originally, and since reintroduction efforts began in 1998, the program has significantly contributed to the reduction of the census population of Mexican wolves in the wild, from 55 in 2003, to 44 in 2004, to 35 in 2005 – a 20 percent decrease each year.

Within the last month, federal agents killed 11 wolves, including six pups from one pack. A seventh pup was orphaned and likely died of starvation as a result of losing its parents.

Please help us put a stop to this cruel and senseless program! Contact Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne to request an emergency moratorium on predator control directed against Mexican wolves until the population stabilizes and reaches its demographic goal. Send a copy of your letter to governors Bill Richardson (N.M.) and Janet Napolitano (Ariz.), who can both wield influence through their respective wildlife departments.

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):

Secretary Dirk Kempthorne

Below is the sample letter:

Subject: Stop trapping and shooting Mexican gray wolves

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

This is to request an emergency moratorium on all predator control targeted against endangered Mexican gray wolves in Arizona and New Mexico. I request that this moratorium stay in effect until the population of Mexican wolves stabilizes and the population objective of at least 100 wolves has been achieved.

Federal predator control has significantly contributed to the reduction of the census population of Mexican wolves in the wild from 55 at the end of 2003, to 44 at the end of 2004, to 35 at the end of 2005 - a 20 percent decline each year.

The Fish and Wildlife Service has known since at least June 2001, at the release of the Mexican Wolf Three-Year Review, that reforms were needed to bring the Mexican wolf program up to much better standards - such as the successful reintroduction of northern Rocky Mountain gray wolves to Yellowstone National Park and central Idaho. For example, the Service does not trap wolves in the northern Rockies simply because they wander outside of their designated recovery area - as it does in the Southwest. And unlike in the Southwest, in the northern Rockies the Service has given itself the flexibility to refuse to carry out predator control against wolves if those wolves prey on domestic animals in a region where attractants - including carcasses of cattle and horses that died of non-wolf causes - have drawn the wolves in. Over the past five years, the Service repeatedly pledged to take imminent action to reform the Mexican wolf reintroduction program's rules, but it has failed to act. We now risk losing these magnificent creatures from the wild once again.

To avoid repeating a tragic history, a moratorium on all predator control activities targeted at Mexican wolves is urgently needed, until the wolf population stabilizes and the goal of at least 100 wolves in the Blue Range Wolf Recovery Area is achieved.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

cc:
Governor Bill Richardson
Governor Janet Napolitano

Premier Danny Williams recently lied about the cruel conditions of Canada's seal hunt during a "Larry King Live" interview. Tell Canada's government to come clean about what's really happening on the ice.
Take Action!Take Action!

In just a few weeks, the largest slaughter of marine mammals is set to begin on the ice off Canada's East Coast.

Over 300,000 seals, mostly babies, will be bludgeoned or shot to death for their fur.
Take action.

But the income generated by the commercial seal hunt doesn't go as far as the Canadian government would like you to think; it accounts for less than one percent of Newfoundland's GDP - an average of only $1,000 per sealer.

What's worse, the seals are slaughtered in the most inhumane fashion during the hunt - routinely clubbed or shot and left to suffer on the ice, then dragged over the side of boats with sharpened metal hooks. Some are even skinned alive.
Say no!

When Danny Williams, Premier of Labrador and Newfoundland, was given the chance to tell the truth about the hunt during a recent episode of "Larry King Live" on CNN, he chose instead to lay false claims about the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and their documentation of the hunt's cruelty.

Claiming to speak on behalf of Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Williams said: "IFAW representatives, veterinarians and other experts have said the seal hunt is humane."

The truth? There isn't a single reputable "expert" or "veterinary group" that has observed the seal hunt and called it humane. In fact, IFAW experts concluded the slaughter to be inherently cruel and horrific.
Take action now.

Doesn't the public at least deserve to know the facts about how baby seals are being killed?

Join IFAW and activists from around the world in urging Canada's Prime Minister to tell the truth about what's really happening on the ice.

Canada's Annual Seal
Slaughter
Set for Late March

Support Boycott of Canadian
Seafood

In late March (this month), the single largest
mass slaughter of mammals anywhere in the world will once again
take place off the East Coast of Canada. Endorsed by the
Canadian Government, fishermen will commence the brutal
slaughter of over 300,000 harp seals. Last year, more than 98.5%
of the seals killed were newborn pups less than two months old.

Sealing is an off-season activity conducted by
commercial fishermen from Canada's East Coast. They beat or
shoot the defenseless seal pups with rifles, clubs and hakapiks
- long wooden clubs with sharp hooked spikes at one end. It
really isn't much of a "hunt" because the seals are so young
they are barely able to even move.

On average, fishermen
make about one-twentieth of their annual incomes from sealing
(the rest comes from working in commercial fisheries). Canada
exports over three billion dollars worth of seafood a year to
the U.S. alone, but only makes a few million from the seal
slaughter. IDA joins animal protection groups around the world
in calling for people everywhere to boycott Canadian seafood
products until Canada stops their annual massacre for good.

What You Can Do:

  1. Contact officials at the Embassy of Canada and tell them
that you oppose the Canadian seal slaughter and will boycott
Canadian seafood until their government agrees to end the
    killing.

  2. If you eat fish or other aquatic animals, please do not buy
Canadian seafood until Canada agrees to end the seal slaughter
for good. Please also inform your friends how buying Canadian
seafood supports the massacre of baby seals.

PROF Stephen Hawking has spoken out in favour of animal testing.

The celebrity scientist, giving a lecture in Oxford, praised people who stood up to animal rights extremists.

Oxford University is currently constructing a controversial £18 million biomedical research centre, which will conduct experiments on animals.

Work on the centre resumed in December last year amid high security.

Prof Hawking, who is Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University, and was born in Oxford, where he was also an undergraduate, said: "It is ridiculous for a nation that is happy to eat animals to object to life-saving work on animals. I applaud those who have the courage to stand up to extremists."

In January 2004, Cambridge University dropped plans to create a multimillion-pound primate research centre on the edge of the city after security costs spiralled and total costs grew from £24 million to more than £32 million. Oxford was also forced to bring a temporary halt to building work after construction firm Montpellier pulled out because of threats of violence.

Work is now back under way.

Students and staff in favour of the lab at Oxford have formed a group called Pro-Test, and a march through the city organised by the group attracted hundreds of supporters.

But animal rights activists have announced they will be taking their campaign against the Oxford lab to the US, where they plan to target alumni fundraising events.

Last week, the US branch of Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (Shac) and six of its members were convicted of inciting violence and terror during an ongoing campaign to shut down Huntingdon Life Sciences.
