here is some info from messages I just sent to Bill & Agnes that gives some of the BEST websites
to keep up the struggle for FREEDOM & FREE Speech on the internet
b4 the BIG Media & their FCC & Political sellout pal$ steal & block the activist & progressive sites from us,,,,,,,,
not to mention how closely the issue is re: $hrubCo's
illegal wiretapping & other abuse$ of power in government that worm$ it's way around & under American safetyguards such as REAL oversight,
as we trade our free Speech for "SO-CALLED Security"....
that only gives more power to politician$ and helps their campaign $peeches while doing little OR nothing for real security & Freedom.
The following are some of the best places to start or join in learning & stopping the ways
Big Media & their pal$ rig the rules to block & deflect common decent citizens from using the web for progressive defense of freedom & political truth:
This REALLY worries me;;;
it erodes the promise of the internet as the most powerful free speech tool in history
with it's ability to allow REAL, common folks of ALL lands to cross political boundaries & go beyond the old, national hate-alliances so as to tell the truth of the people--
especially in situations where countries are known to crush free speech.
One of the big issues I'm staying abreast of is the NET Neutrality issue that keeps BIG Media & Internet provider companies from "oh-so-sly manipulation of the web," such as blocking progressive sites or making them so slow to connect
that we activists cannot connect to dialogue or do politically important work for free speech, ECOLOGY, HUMAN rights AND speaking truth to power.
I highly recommend these groups, --- please check them out & send them to all your activist pals :
1) The EFF @http://www.eff.org/ ...they are the Electronic Frontier Foundation: a group of FREE Speech and internet rights activists yet are also TOP level Silicon Valley experts and lawyers who frequently get on PBS & such---
often making headlines as they fight the court$, politicians & the FCC on rules that weaken the internet for common folk by allowing ISP's & Big Media to rig trick-legislation that does nasty things like block hot topics in progressive politics by shutting down access to the best blogs & activist sites ; the EFF also fights for individuals who are screwed by big Media's grip on the government & FCC...
checkout their site & read their take on the battle for Net Equality (NET Neutrality) & other progressive, free speech issues.
2) GLOBAL Internet Liberty Campaign:http://www.gilc.org/ ...these folks have an EXCELLENT "mission statement" for freedom: "The Global Internet Liberty Campaign advocates:
Prohibiting prior censorship of on-linecommunication.
Requiring that laws restricting the content of on-line speech distinguish between the liability of content providers and the liability of data carriers.
Insisting that on-line free expression not be restricted by indirect means such as excessively restrictive governmental or private controls over computer hardware or software, telecommunications infrastructure, or other essential components of the Internet.
Including citizens in the Global Information Infrastructure (GII) development process from countries that are currently unstable economically, have insufficient infrastructure, or lack sophisticated technology.
Prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
Ensuring that personal information generated on the GII for one purpose is not used for an unrelated purpose or disclosed without the person's informed consent and enabling individuals to review personal information on the Internet and to correct inaccurate information.
Allowing on-line users to encrypt their communications and information without restriction."
3)Tor :http://tor.eff.org/overview.html.en ..."Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups to improve their privacy and security on the Internet.
It also enables software developers to create new communication tools with built-in privacy features.
Tor provides the foundation for a range of applications that allow organizations and individuals to share information over public networks without compromising their privacy.
Individuals use Tor
to keep websites from tracking them & their family members,
or to connect to news sites, instant messaging services, or the like when these are blocked by their local Internet providers.
well folks............they ain't givin in without a fight............
those greedy "sellout the internet & $haft web users"
are keeping the issue VERY hot...
and if u can believe it, a few key Democrat$ are actually waffling or even voting against us..
Biden, Jr., Joseph R. (D-DE) is one who's waffling,
--if you ARE in his state---- PLEASE call his office & use the info at their website (below) to help sound smart & tough on this issue for his support.
((----and note :: ALL toll FREE numbers to D.C. are listed below for ya---- save a little while they're tolls are jackin-us-up
Please pass THIS to all bloggers, geeks & pals------
all who like comedy, news, & fun on the REAL net---
...not some crappy new TRICK by OLD Media-GREED that a few big telcos want to grab out of our wallets.
Rock on.............. HERE is the TOLL FREE way to reach ALL SENATE/Congress offices in DC: 1-888-355-3588 )) freedom of speech thru VIGILANCE,,,,
Net neutrality supporters are gearing up against a Senate vote on Sen. Ted "The Internet is a Series of Tubes" Stevens' telecommunications bill (S 2686). This bad bill fails to protect Net Neutrality. To preserve Internet freedom, we need to be sure that this bill gets overhauled or stopped in its tracks.
Today, we launched a Senate map that makes it ridiculously easy to a) figure out where your Senators stand, and b) urge them to take a public stance in support of Internet freedom. The goal is to get as many senators on the record as possible before any vote on the Senate floor. You (and your readers) can help the cause by checking out the map and flooding the Senate with calls.
July is a pivotal month. The Senate leadership won't schedule a vote on Stevens' bad bill unless 60 senators say they'll vote for it. Now's the time to call senators and tell them to support Net Neutrality instead -- and to oppose last-ditch industry efforts to push through a bill that more and more Americans are turning against.
We need more creativity like this to call attention to what the telcos are trying to get away with -- but eventually it all boils down to what the Senate does. So don't forget to check out the map, call your Senators, and encourage your friends/readers to do the same.
With your help, we can match the millions of dollars spent by AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth with millions of citizens speaking up for Internet freedom.
hey yall, here's latest news from Students for Free Tibet -- .......please FORWARD widely...... rob =][=

Reject the Railway, China out of Tibet: Saturday, July 1st
Start organizing now for this Global Day of Resistance!
Join Tibetans and their supporters around the world by joining a protest or demonstration on July 1st to reject the launch of the China-Tibet railway. This rail line, connecting Tibet with mainland China, is the cornerstone of the Chinese government's plans to consolidate its control over Tibet by colonizing the impoverished region, marginalizing Tibetans economically, and quashing any local resistance efforts. The railway has also been heavily marketed to foreign mining and oil companies as a fast, easy and cheap way to transport Tibet's natural resources out of the country.
Started by SFT India in November 2005, the Reject the Railway campaign challenges the Chinese government's plans to use this railway to tighten its iron grip over Tibet, while intensifying the movement for Tibetan freedom in the lead up to the 2008 Olympic Games.
You can help by organizing or joining a demonstration at the Chinese embassy or consulate nearest you! Below is the contact information for national/regional protest organizers. If you live elsewhere and would like to organize a demonstration for July 1st, please contact: kate@studentsforafreetibet.org. Stay tuned for more information and materials on how to Reject the Railway.
hey yall, Looks like activists & small countries actually FOUGHT the WTO recently & had a nice little victory.... it forced the WTO to cancel it's plans for a new, typically undemocratic "insider" trick. The story is below or you could checkout their sites:: http://www.citizenstrade.org ...or... http://www.citizen.org/trade/wto/ ...would be nice if the momentum could be taken advantage of. peace, Rob =][=
Undemocratic WTO Mini-Ministerial Canceled
as Developing Nations, Civil Society Protest
Dear Fair Trade Activist,
What if nothing less than the future of your job, whether your kids can hope for a good standard of living, whether your loved ones can access the medicines required for their survival, live in a peaceful world with a safe environment and healthy food, and even the fate of the basic human rights — from democratic decision-making to labor rights — were all up for grabs… and you were locked out of the room?
Sounds like an overwritten horror flick?
Unfortunately, it's business as usual as the World Trade Organization.
The goods news is that an attempt to ram through a deal to extend the WTO's poisonous, muscular tentacles into even more non-trade elements of our daily lives was narrowly foiled last week.
The plan was to 'overcome' opposition by a majority of the countries who are signatories to the WTO to a major powergrab called the "Doha Round" of WTO expansion talks by simply locking 100-plus countries out of the room. The WTO's Director General, Pascal Lamy, had called for an exclusive, invitation-only "Mini-Ministerial" meeting — to which only certain countries were invited — so the minority in favor of imposing the WTO's corporate rule could agree without interference of democratic process.
After African trade ministers filed an official protest — and a large bloc of other developing countries joined in — Public Citizen, and 124 other organizations from some 40 countries entered the fray as reinforcements — calling for the undemocratic gathering to be canceled. Read the civil society statement here. (PDF)
The wave of resistance to this undemocratic maneuver peaked, and in a great victory, Lamy was forced to cancel the Mini-Ministerial.
But unfortunately, the Doha Round itself was not cancelled — and that is where you come in!
Instead of fixing the massive problems demonstrated by the WTO's dismal 11 year record of eroding democracy, eviscerating environmental protections and pushing the race-to-the-bottom on wages and workers' rights around the globe, U.S. and EU government officials are seeking to expand the WTO's failed model in favor of the corporate interests they represent. Negotiations have been deadlocked because many countries have realized that the WTO model of corporate globalization will damage their economies.
With the forced cancellation of the Geneva Mini-Ministerial, we will be on the alert to ferret out whatever next tricks may be tried — and make sure you know what you can do to add your voice to those from around the world demanding:
