The Path into Healing by Sam Oliver is a model for healing through the feminine side of the soul. The purpose of this book is to outline a process whereby a person can understand and acquaint him or herself with an aspect of our awareness often neglected in our world today. Much of the emphasis in our world is on what a person can achieve without regard to how these achievements affect the world and the people living in these achievements. The Path into Healing is an attempt to give acknowledgment to the inner qualities of living that our outer world thrusts upon us.

Just think for a moment what a child does and says when he/she gets hurt. They want their mommy. Why is it that when we are hurt, we look to the feminine soul to give us strength and direction. On September 11, 2001, the first thing we did when New York City was bombed was to turn inside ourselves in prayer, for direction, and for hope beyond our external world being destroyed around us.

This inward look into a world that is with us throughout our life is a womb like state of being. Inside us is an incredible source of strength and energy capable of nurturing a dying person through death, helping us rebuild what is destroyed in our external world, and transforming the most drastic event into a presence of peace. Thus is the world of the feminine spirit.

Stan Goldberg has put together a series of stories that will inspire you to reach into your heart and soul and seek ways to care for others with a compassionate heart. Each story will guide you into acts of kindness that will move your heart into a place only your soul can embrace. In essence, these stories are encounters with eternal relationships created in our most simplest of moments in our care for others.

You will find stories of gratitude, forgiveness, courage, hope, faith, and much more in this book. As you care for the needs of others through service, you will find a path created inside you that will form your character in ways you never knew was possible. You will find peace in the appearance of despair, and you will come to know your most authentic self.

This is a book of encouragement. You will find yourself challenged by your present behavior toward others and replace it with the joy of living life in unconditional grace. Dying people have much to teach us about living, and how, unconditionally loving another person during their most darkest hours will reveal a beacon of light that will illuminate our soul.

Baby boomers are now facing the challenge of caring for their aging parents, and that challenge knows no borders. Some version of what has happened to the elderly people in my life and in the lives of the people I've interviewed, is happening or will happen to you, the reader, as well. Many of our elderly parents took their last breaths in a nursing home. Their health had deteriorated to a point where they couldn't safely stay in a family environment. You'll read of the turmoil many of us went through as we settled our loved ones in Rosewood on Broadway, or Elim, or Eventide. Homes in other areas will have different names, different physical configurations, different staff. That's immaterial. You'll go through the same agonizing process as you look for the best quality care available. You'll go through the same confusion as you try to find a way to work your parents' new environment into your own life. Some of our people are fortunate enough to die with family, in their own homes. Others die in a hospital. Some cling to a whisper of life in a nursing home. But for all, eventually, their journey must end. Minding Our Elders was written to support you as you travel the last leg of their journey with them. It was written to remind you that you are not alone.

About the Author
For over twenty years, Carol Bradley Bursack cared for a neighbor and six elderly family members. Through the years of caregiving and deaths, she has come to know professionals in the field, as well as many family caregivers. It was the caregivers themselves who inspired and encouraged her to write Minding Our Elders: Caregiver Share Their Personal Stories. According to a 2004 study by AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving, over 44 million people age 18 and over provide care to another adult. Most are happy to help, but caregiving can become an overwhelming addition to an already busy life. People need support. The purpose of Minding Our Elders is to offer a portable support group. Each story is self-contained. The stories are honest looks at many different situations with a common thread; that caregiving is both hard work, and -- at least in hindsight -- personally rewarding. The stories give comfort and assure people that they are not alone. Bursack writes a newspaper column titled Minding Our Elders, and maintains a Website and two blogs devoted to caregiver, boomer and senior issues. She's written hundreds of articles on eldercare, speaks and gives workshops on caregiving and has been interviewed on scores of national radio programs. Bursack is also a contributing author to The Media Librarian's Handbook (Facet Publishing 2008).

Excerts from: What the Dying Teach Us: Lessons on Living

by Samuel Oliver

Lesson 1: The difference between one who experiences grace and one who does not is a shift in consciousawareness.

Lesson 3: When the body yields itself to the soul, there is a oneness with the universe, freeing us from our dependence on the existence of this life to define us.

Lesson 4: Peace is found when people come to the end of all they know and are willing to reach out for someone or something they trust to lead them into a new and deeper realization of existence.

Lesson 5: Between actuality and potentiality lies an evolutionary experience where the soul transcends space and time and enters human consciousness from the depths of infinity.

Lesson 12: We all perceive life in our own way. Difficulty arises when we cling to a world of perceptions as though our own perception is the ultimate reality.

Dying people have much to teach us. Most of all, they teach us how to live our lives in soul. In the dying process, people become fully awake within themselves. It is a peace filled life, free of the body's limitation, and grounded in spirit. It is the destiny of us all to fully realize how eternal our relationships are, and our dying to appearances opens the gates of our soul infused by eternal life.
