I would like to thank two very sensitive US friends, Ellen and Scott, who offered their contribution to the victims of the Greece fires.
People who have lived and survived a disaster are more likely to help - even if they live at the other end of the world! Having felt the same feelings, the same frustration: this brings people together. Here the messages of my two friends who I thank with all my heart:
--------------------------
Marina- I am always surprised by people's sensitivities to our neighbors around the world. You are truly a kind person! I feel lucky to be on your email list. I know what it means to have suffered from disasters. 3 years ago, Hurricaine Ivan brought floods that were so deep, it completely destroyed the first floor of our house. We had to rebuild ourselves because there weren't enough workers to help everyone. Our neighbors did not live in their homes for almost a year. The following year, Hurricane Dennis took our roof, the chimney and most of the siding on 2 sides of our house. We again rebuilt. Disasters change people...forever. We have vacationed in Greece (Crete) in the summer and in the winter. We love Greece and the Greek people an will donate what we can to this terrible event. Thanks for your kind note. Kind regards- Scott
-----------------------
Marina,
I donated some money, thanks to your link, and I've added a link to your shop and ihelpGreece on my page. I get about 150 visitors a week, so hopefully that'll net a few more donations. It was just heartbreaking seeing the news. I live in an area that gets fires like that and I know how devastating and huge they can be. I've been trapped on the far side of a 20-mile front of fire, and even with an army of water-dropping helicopters between me and the burning hills, I felt very small and helpless. I'm glad that there are some ways we can help. At least the internet is bringing the world together a little more. ~ Ellen
73 human lives and 2,5 million square meters of land turned to ashes are the casualties of this summer’s fires. The number of missing people still remains unknown. Thousands of people have lost their homes.
The victims need our urgent help and support.
“I help Greece” is a campaign that aims to sensitize people in Greece and abroad in order to collect funds that will be provided to the victims of the fire-stricken areas. Everyone’s contribution is valuable, regardless of the amount offered.
Any physical or legal person that wishes to contribute can donate to the web-site "I help Greece" (www.ihelp.gr) via credit card. The amount will be deposited in cooperation with EFG Eurobank Ergasias to a designated Government Assistance Funds' account, created by the Ministry of Finance.
