Entertaining. Educational. Exhausting. Empowering. CARE's National Conference & Celebration was all of that and more! I really wish you could have joined us. It was a jam-packed two days, full of learning, meeting fellow CARE supporters and most importantly bringing a clear message to Washington, D.C.: Americans are invested in the fight against global poverty!

As busload after busload of CARE advocates arrived on Capitol Hill, we fanned out to engage in more than 290 meetings with policymakers. We talked about some of the most important issues poor communities face: hunger, climate change and opportunities for all children.

And our leaders heard us. How do we know? Because just days later, 26 new co-sponsors signed onto the child marriage prevention act in the House and another nine in the Senate! After one day of meetings on the Hill, CARE supporters helped mobilize elected officials to fight poverty and defend the dignity of all people. Just imagine what we can do together over the next year!

Building on the conference’s success, our goal now is to make sure every member of Congress becomes a supporter of the child marriage law. Please, send a quick note to your elected officials encouraging them to stand up for girls’ rights. That simple action can help stop the practice that pushes 25,000 girls into marriage everyday!

To celebrate this year's conference theme, ''Many Voices, One Movement,'' we created a photo mosaic. We think it's the perfect representation of the conference: Each of us is a powerful figure on our own, but together we can be so much more!

NCC Mosaic

Meet up with us at www.careconference.org and browse more photos, videos and stories. (The highlight reel with a Michael Franti soundtrack is my favorite!)

Again, thank you for all you are doing to support CARE. We hope you'll stay engaged with CARE as we strive to create lasting change and build a better world for all. See you in Washington next year!

With sincere appreciation,

Helene Gayle

Recently Michael Tarif Warren and his wife Evelyn, who are prominent human rights attorneys, witnessed the police beating of a young African American in NYC. When they asked why the police were beating a man who was handcuffed and unarmed, the police attacked them. Michael was charged with resisting arrest, obstuctive governmental administration and disorderly conduct. Evelyn is also charged with disorderly conduct. In reality, it was the police who were disorderly in their misadministration of justice.

We are supporters of human rights across the world and we are outraged that human rights are not being protected in Brooklyn. It is not a crime to inquire why police are beating a man senseless, as the Warrens were doing. They were acting within the law as citizens and attorneys who witnessed a crime being perpetrated by police officers.

We demand that justice be carried out in this case. We want all charges against the Warrens to be dropped immediately. In addition, they should be compensated for their injuries and a written apology delivered from NYC to them. We also want a thorough investigation of the arresting officers up to and including charges being brought against them.  Finally, we want justice for the young man who the Warrens witnessed being beaten. He deserves compensation for his injuries and a thorough investigation into whether he was guilty of the crimes for which the police were punishing him. The police should be investigated for violating his right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment, as protected by the United States constitution.

To Randy Paynter & Care2 Support Staff

Please reconsider your stance on silencing victims of abuse and stalkers on Care2 and those that advocate against such abuses.Men and Women around Care2 have fallen victim to online abusers and stalkers. Many of us have spoken out, only to be told we must be silent about such abuses. Your reposnses always mention trolls, trolls are pests, We do agree, but abusers and stalkers are criminals.It has been stated that if we speak out, if we mention names of these abusers/stalkers in our groups to warn other members, our posts will be censored, our groups will be at risk of being deleted and we will be at risk of being suspended or banned from the site.Care2 says it is better to just ignore the abusers.We understand that Care2 Tech., and Customer Support says they are working on this issue, but the more they work on it, it seems the only ones receiving any repercussions are the victims of abuse. We request Care2 stop punishing the victims and rid the site of the predators & abusers.

~~~
We came to Care2 because it was a great social activist site.
We would like to remain for the same reason.
We respectfully ask you to reconsider your choice of actions on this matter.
Allow us our freedom of speech within our groups, blogs and such, so that we may prevent other's from falling prey to these perpetrators.
Silencing the victims, only protects the perpetrators,
allows them to continue abusing the women of Care2,
and re-victimizes the victims of these abuses.
Give us the right to protect ourselves and our community.
Exposing the abusers/stalkers is the only way to end abuse.
Have a more open line of communication between Care2 Support Staff and Care2 members on this issue, so that we may work together on preventing further abuses.
We also need to let everyone know that we as a whole community CARE and will not tollerate abusers and stalkers!
Sincerely,
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/please-help-protect-our-community-at-care2
To Randy Paynter and Care2 support,
Please reconsider your poor stance on silencing victims of abuse and stalkers on Care2 and those that advocate against such abuses.
Women around Care2 have fallen victim to online abusers and stalkers. Many of us have spoken out, only to be told we must be silent about such abuses.
Your reposnses always mention trolls, trolls are pests, We do agree, but abusers and stalkers are criminals.
You have made it clear that if any of us speak out, if we mention names of these abusers/stalkers in our groups
to warn other members, our posts will be censored, our groups will be at risk of being deleted and we will
be at risk of being suspended or banned from the site.
You say it is better to just ignore the abusers.
We understand that Tech support works hard on this issue, but member support has counter-acted with revictimization and censorship.
