"What's the price of gasoline? In the U.S. it's about $4 a gallon. But some experts say the true price of gas is much higher. What about the costs of pollution, and the global and local problems caused by it? Who pays for those? This animated feature from the Center for Investigative Reporting calculates the carbon footprint and other "external costs" of gasoline use in the U.S."
I would double the price again, due to pollution of waterways, soil and underground aquifers. Just take the recent reports of a tiny amount of pollutant from gasoline getting into drinking water supplies, making it undrinkable... What cost is attached to not having any water to drink or bathe in? Again, the same issue applies to fracking.. getting natural gas out of the ground involves polluting underground water supplies.

This article also ignores the cost of CO2 and global warming caused by carbon fuels. The damage caused by just one huge storm can bankrupt a whole country and throw it back into the stone age. The effect that climate change has is GLOBAL, so we cannot figure out the cost per person by state or local city. The cost we pay is GLOBAL, in increased storms, floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, droughts, and more destruction caused by these bigger storms. I doubt that they figured this into the cost.
