Joe Lieberman can only hold reform hostage if we let him

Dozens of people held a sit-in at Senator Lieberman's Capitol Hill office this morning to demand that Senator Lieberman pledge to stop taking health insurance company campaign contributions and free up funds so they can be used to pay for patient care. For 30 minutes, demonstrators requested to talk to Senator Lieberman and chanted "Patients not Profits, Medicare for All." Nine members of the Mobilization for Health Care for All sat down in the office lobby until forcibly removed by the police.

Since 1989, only 10 other current senators have brought in more cash from the health sector than Lieberman, who has collected $2.6 million in that time.

2. Make a donation to support the Mobilization. Donate for bail money for those sitting in Lieberman's office.

3. Call your representative to support the Medicare for All amendment that is being put forward by Congressman Weiner.

Since beginning just over one month ago thousands have signed up to participate in "Patients before Profits" sit-ins and over 920 have signed up willing to risk arrest. By the end of this week the Mobilization will have held 32 sit-ins in 28 different cities with more than 150 arrests and over 220 risking arrest. We started out wanting 100 people to risk arrest at "patients before profits" sit-ins and now more than 920 have done so. The Mobilization needs to continue to grow in order to make the impact the people desperately need - Medicare for All.

Great news: Senate progressives are organizing their colleagues to fight for the public health insurance option. Can you call Senator Barbara Boxer and urge her to join in?

Right now Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Senate leaders are deciding what to include in the health care bill that goes to the Senate floor this month—and he's paying close attention to what his fellow Democratic senators are saying about it.

So Senators Sherrod Brown, Jay Rockefeller, and Russ Feingold have written a letter to Reid insisting that the bill include the public option, because it's the only way to create real competition and hold insurance companies accountable.

The Brown letter is a big opportunity to build momentum for the public health insurance option in the Senate. Can you call Sen. Boxer and urge her to sign?

Sen. Reid has publicly expressed his support for the public option¹—which has been included in bills already passed by four out of five congressional committees. But he's facing unrelenting pressure from conservative senators and industry lobbyists who oppose it.

My comment; the medical industry causes enough deaths to equal a fully loaded 747 jumbo jet crashing EVERY DAY, killing everyone aboard; about 400 people, yet few are upset, crying or asking for any change. Terrorists are not the enemy.. They only killed 3,000 on 9/11, compared to 100,000 per year from this direct cause... they are amateurs.  We do not need a death panel, as we already have it, with the Big Pharma industry causing all of these deaths...
