Hmmmm....wonder how many work place accidents were truly an accident, or the brakes letting go on your car? How do we really know?

Some companies that do it are Wal-Mart and American Express....so if they do it....I'm sure the list goes on.

My addition; 

As Michael Moore explains in the movie, insurance laws on us peasants prevent us from taking out insurance policies on our neighbors and co workers. We cannot get fire insurance or life insurance on our bosses, since it would create a conflict of interest, and tempt us to do something illegal in order to profit... So why is this common sense law that applies to us peasants not applying to the huge corporations that do this for all their employees? I am talking about large blue chip companies here... not scammy fly by night fraudsters, which is what I would expect from them...

What makes it worse is that the financial companies that almost brought down the worldwide money system with leveraged ARM loan derivatives, are now doing the same thing with these insurance policies... They are now gambling on your death and selling it on the open market to the highest bidder, worldwide.. They add a leverage factor of forty times, which is their profit.. the same as the Arm Loan Derivative scandal... 

They got bailed out of one huge mess, so now they are creating an even LARGER mess, with taxpayer money. No laws exist for this and it is the WILD WEST... anything goes, same as Arm Loans.. Because it pays such HUGE PROFITS, it is attracting the brightest minds, the smartest people and the biggest scammers who are going to make BILLIONS if not TRILLIONS on this next fraud.. They will sell this to investors who will lose EVERYTHING, just like those who invested in ARM Loan Derivatives.

My comment; the medical industry causes enough deaths to equal a fully loaded 747 jumbo jet crashing EVERY DAY, killing everyone aboard; about 400 people, yet few are upset, crying or asking for any change. Terrorists are not the enemy.. They only killed 3,000 on 9/11, compared to 100,000 per year from this direct cause... they are amateurs.  We do not need a death panel, as we already have it, with the Big Pharma industry causing all of these deaths...

Crack cocaine and powder cocaine are different forms of the same drug, and have similar effects on the brain and nervous system. Federal law, however, sets a 100 to 1 sentencing disparity between the two forms.
This disparity, enacted in the 1980s at the height of drug war hysteria, was based largely on the myth that crack cocaine was more dangerous than powder cocaine and that it was instantly addictive and caused violent behavior. Since then, copious amounts of scientific evidence and an analysis by the U.S. Sentencing Commission have shown that these assertions were not supported by sound data and were exaggerated or outright false.
Regardless of why the disparity was enacted, its impact is clear: tremendous racial disparities in the criminal justice system, wasted tax dollars, and a less safe America.
The solution is clear: Completely eliminate the disparity. Raise the amounts of crack cocaine it takes to trigger long sentences to equal those of powder cocaine, and reprioritize federal drug war agencies towards violent drug cartels.

DPA is launching a major grassroots campaign to boost support for reform, including holding town hall forums in key Congressional districts. We've already held one forum in Alabama in conjunction with the ACLU; and we're planning forums in California, New York, and Texas. Additionally, we've teamed up with The Sentencing Project, the ACLU, and the Open Society Policy Center to launch a public relations campaign (you can view the campaign's really cool print ads here).
Three U.S. Senators have already introduced reform bills - Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), and Senator Joe Biden (D-DE). The Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), has pledged to have hearings on the issue in September. There is growing bi-partisan support for reform.
The Sessions bill (S. 1383) would reduce the crack/powder sentencing disparity to 20 to 1 by lowering penalties for crack cocaine and raising penalties for power cocaine. Since Hispanics are disproportionately prosecuted for powder cocaine offenses, the practical effect of the Sessions bill would be to reduce racial disparities for blacks, while increasing them for Hispanics. The Hatch bill (S. 1685) would reduce the disparity to 20 to 1 by lowering penalties for crack cocaine and leaving powder penalties unchanged (it is, thus, significantly better than the Sessions bill). The Biden bill (S. 1711) would completely eliminate the disparity by lowering crack penalties to equal those of powder.
Of the three bills, Senator Biden's bill is the only one to completely eliminate the disparity; and it would accomplish this without subjecting more Americans to draconian mandatory minimum sentences. His bill is the one the Senate should pass. Please take a minute to fax your Senators and urge them to co-sponsor Senator Biden's reform bill (S. 1711).

While it takes just five grams of crack cocaine (about two sugar packets worth) to receive a five-year mandatory minimum sentence, it takes 500 grams of powder cocaine to receive the same sentence. 50 grams of crack cocaine triggers a ten-year sentence, but it takes 5,000 grams of powder cocaine - 5 kilos - to receive that much jail time.
Even though 66% of crack users are white, blacks make up more than 80% of federal defendants sentenced for crack cocaine offenses. No other federal law is more responsible for gross racial disparities in the federal criminal justice system.
And although the crack mandatory minimums were enacted to punish major traffickers, the vast majority of people subjected to them are low-level offenders. A recent report by the U.S. Sentencing Commission found that almost 70% of federal crack cocaine defendants had only low-level involvement in drug activity.

Cathy Kangas Offers $16 Million to End Seal Hunt.

Last year the Canadian seal slaughter realized $16 million in income to East Coast seal killers.

This year = Sea Shepherd member and supporter Kathy Kangas has offered $16 million to compensate the sealers if they do not kill seals.

Kangas the CEO and Founder of PRAI Beauty, a global beauty company has made the offer in a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper

"If you stop this year's hunt immediately, we will provide you with the $16 million to be distributed at your discretion." Said Kangas.

Ms. Kangas also proposed working with the Canadian government to institute a program to buy back existing fishing licenses and launch a program of eco-tourism in Northeastern Canada to replace the seal hunt.  "Canadian fishermen could earn more money serving as park rangers for high end tours to Canada to see the beautiful spectacle of seals giving birth on the ice floes," she noted.  She said that whale-watching tours in Canada have been very successful attracting visitors.

"We are providing you with an alternative to what Paul McCartney called 'a stain on the character of the Canadian people.'  If this is really simply an economic problem, then take our offer," Mrs. Kangas stated in her letter.  The money, she pointed out, will be raised from private citizens and animal protection groups worldwide.

Mrs. Kangas added: "With the worldwide boycott of Canadian seafood, the television coverage of baby seals being clubbed to death for their pelts, and the involvement of high-profile celebrities such as Heather and Paul McCartney and Bridget Bardot, one would think that Stephen Harper would welcome an economic solution to the seal hunt.  We are willing to negotiate in good faith.  However, should he choose to ignore my letter and continue with the hunt, we need to ask the world what will it take for Canada to end this barbaric practice?"

As CEO and Founder of PRAI Beauty, a global skin and beauty care company sold through the Internet and home shopping networks, she created "Beauty With A Cause."  Under this program, her company contributes a portion of its proceeds every month to a different animal protection organization.

Your government has repeatedly stated that the $16 million realized from
the slaughter of Canadian baby seals is vital to the fishing communities of
the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Newfoundland.  If you stop this year's hunt

Furthermore, we will work with your government to institute a program to
buy back the fishing licenses and begin a program of eco-tourism in
Northeastern Canada, which would replace the seal hunt.  Through this program,
high-end tour companies, such as Abercrombie & Kent, would provide
opportunities for its customers to see the beautiful spectacle of seals giving
birth on the ice floes.  This could be a whole new source of revenue for the
region and fishermen could serve as Park Rangers showing the seals and
protecting them.
The eyes of the world will be on Canada when the seal hunt begins.  We are
providing you with an alternative to what Paul McCartney called "a stain on
the character of the Canadian people."  If this is really simply an economic
problem, then take our offer.  The money is being raised from animal
protection groups worldwide including The Humane Society of the United States,
which alone has more than 9 million members.
We are asking you to negotiate with us in good faith. If we do not hear
back from your office before the start of the hunt, we will have no other
choice than to take this offer to the Canadian and worldwide media. We are
providing the Canadian government with an opportunity to end the seal hunt and
provide fishermen with an alternative livelihood.  We look forward to
