Where Heart Shift Happens. Teaching the Science of Sustainable Health. What works for 7 future generations? "Do not go where the freeway may lead - Go instead where there is no path and build - A Green Road"
Saturday marked the two-year anniversary of one of the most influential Supreme Court decisions of our lifetime - Citizens United. The Supreme Court's ruling made it legal for corporations to pour millions of dollars into elections.
To fight back, we launched a petition calling on President Obama to support a constitutional amendment that would ban corporate money in elections and restore democracy.
It has turned out to be Rebuild The Dream's hottest petition ever!
In the first three days, more than 75,000 people have already signed on. With your help, we can push the number much higher - and get real attention on this issue. Americans can demand that elected officials be accountable to their constituents, not big corporate donors.
Ask President Obama to support an amendment banning corporate money in elections.
Raising awareness is key to pushing for fair and democratic elections. President Obama's acknowledgement of the corruption that has stemmed from Citizens United will bring national attention to the issue.
Join the 75,000 others who have already asked Obama to reject corporate money in politics. With the 2012 elections approaching, there's no better time to demand a firm and just stance from our President.
When it is time to replace or install a new air conditioner, consider the value and benefits of a split ductless air conditioner. The benefits are of this system are many and the drawbacks are few. For example, this kind of system can save you up to 30% on air conditioning costs, due to cooling only the areas that truly need cooling.
In addition, because in most cases there are no ducts, along with all of the inherent losses and leaks within the duct system, you will also gain that automatic efficiency from this ductless design.
The way this system works is to install a central unit outside, preferably in an area that is mostly or always shaded, in order to get another small percentage of efficiency. This central unit is like the core of a central AC system in a standard home or commercial unit, as it includes a compressor and condenser.
The larger central unit is connected via refrigerant lines to smaller sized AC units placed within the residential or commercial structure. Each unit can be sized to cool a specific area and tailored to the need required, from 9,000 to 18,000 BTU. Generally, one outside central unit can handle up to four inside units.
Each indoor unit is placed high on the wall, in order to maximize the cooling effect, and each unit has it’s own programmable thermostat. Because ducts are ideally eliminated, all that is left to keep clean is the filter built into each indoor AC unit, thus increasing the health of the occupants, by not spreading germs, dust and more all through the house. Long term, duct leaks can amount to a 10% additional cost on an AC system, so this extra cost is permanently eliminated. T
These newer units most often come complete with a remote that controls all operations of the AC unit, making it easy to fine tune the comfort levels, or to turn it off, after getting into bed for example.
Hybrid systems are also possible, by combining partial ducts built against the corners of the ceilings (inside the living unit), along with a wall mounted unit. In this way, a hybrid split mini system works much like a window unit, but can handle several rooms at a time. One small unit can cool several rooms using this hybrid style of system.
Finally, the cost of a split mini AC system can be significantly less than a central AC unit, but sadly, all current split mini systems must be purchased from overseas.
American manufacturers (to their peril) are being forced to catch up the overseas efficiency and money saving gains that foreign home and business owners are enjoying, much like the US auto industry had to catch up with foreign competitors not that long ago. The price the US auto industry had to pay was that without government assistance, it could have completely disappeared. The AC industry in this country is facing that same potential dynamic, as these foreign competitors come into the US and market aggressively, while energy prices continue to climb.

Trade-In Your Junk Car for $4,500 "Obama just signed the Cash for Clunkers bill, also known as Car Allowance Rebate System (CAR, which will give vouchers up to $4,500 dollars, to people who trade in their gas-guzzling vehicles to buy a new, more fuel efficient car. To qualify, your car or truck must get 18 miles per gallon, or less. To get the biggest voucher, you have to get a car that improves your gas mileage by 10 miles per gallon. There is a step-by-step guide on how to take advantage of CARS as well as frequently asked questions here: http://www.cars.gov/ "
Running the Numbers looks at contemporary American culture through the austere lens of statistics in art and photography.
Each image portrays a specific quantity of something: fifteen million sheets of office paper (five minutes of paper use); 106,000 aluminum cans (thirty seconds of can consumption) and so on.
My hope is that images representing these quantities might have a different effect than the raw numbers alone, such as we find daily in articles and books.
Statistics can feel abstract and anesthetizing, making it difficult to connect with and make meaning of 3.6 million SUV sales in one year, for example, or 2.3 million Americans in prison, or 32,000 breast augmentation surgeries in the U.S. every month.
This project visually examines these vast and bizarre measures of our society, in large intricately detailed prints assembled from thousands of smaller photographs. Employing themes such as the near versus the far, and the one versus the many, I hope to raise some questions about the roles and responsibilities we each play as individuals in a society that is increasingly enormous, incomprehensible, and overwhelming.
Alan Greenspan gave an Economic Outlook speech that was shown on C Span.. here are his predictions.......
This is the most gloomy set of statistics he has ever seen in his lifetime.
Predicting another 10 percent drop in home prices
Says global output is still in free fall, and will take time to recover as inventory that is in excess is sold or disposed of.. In other words, no recovery until this happens.
No recovery until home prices stabilize.
3 month Libor bank to bank rate is 100 basis points where it should be 10. This is a worrying number...
If interest rates keep going up, then recovery could be slowed down or stopped.
Banks will need more bailout money before they can recover.
Interest rates may increase if money supply is expanded, which is what is happening now, in my view.
He said that banks used to have 50 of their assets in reserve, but this dropped steadily until now, when assets in reserve were very low. This caused the current crisis...
In my words, he is saying that banks started gambling and spinning the Roulette Wheel since the 1980s, when money was leveraged about 40 times.. In other words 40 dollars were loaned out for every 1 dollar in deposits in the bank... When those forty dollars went bad and could not be collected, then there was nothing left in the bank to cover the bad loan... This is happening all over the globe, as toxic complicated loans were packaged and sold, after being mixed up with stocks, futures and other garbage that had no value by companies like the ones that recently had to go and get corporate welfare in order to survive. Taxpayers are now being asked to cover the bad debts of gamblers...
