"I'm here at a local playground in Kashiwa Japan just taking some geiger counter readings. Yes that is 6.46µSv/h right there on the play ground! "  See Youtube video below..
.................................................................................

My note; So what does this reading mean? 1000uSv = 1 mSv.  Typical yearly dose for a human being is 2.4 mSv per year.
....................................................................................
The reading in the video above would equal 6 uSv X 24hours (worst case scenario like tracking this radiation via bare feet into the house, bed, linen, clothing, hair, etc. Guess what? Kids play in the dirt and get dirty, thus spreading this radiation around from school to classroom, to cars, to home.
......................................................................................
6 x 24 = 120 uSv per day x 360 days = 43,200uSv per year. This translates into 43 mSv per year. 50 mSV is the maximum dose that US radiation workers are allowed to be exposed to. Background level in Tokyo, pre-accident, was around 0.3 mSv per year. It includes all previous nuclear bombs and accidents radiation leftovers.. Gee thanks.)
...................................................................................
The problem? Kids are 10-100 times more sensitive to radiation, and the average maximum allowed dose for an average person is 20 mSV per year. So these kids living in Tokyo are getting WAY over that! How?
One has to multiply an adult dose by 10 to 100 times. So now we have to multiply 43 mSv by 10 to 100 which gives us 430 mSv to 4,300 mSv per year for these kids exposure levels.  One has to multiply the radiation effect that much to get a realistic view of the effect on kids compared to adults. Kids are 10-100 times more sensitive to the same dose of radiation.

.....................................................................................
This very high reading is from a suburb of Tokyo, Japan, which is a long ways away from Fukushima, Japan.

..........................................................................................

........................................................................................
So what is the purpose and goal of this blog? One potential goal is to give information to people in Japan (but also the USA) about the dangers of low level radiation and how it endangers children as it accumulates in soil, such as around schools.
.......................................................................................
Around Fukushima province, they are supposedly testing the soil at schools (some, all, or just kindergartens?) because some outsiders like Greenpeace came in and tested the soil there, finding high radiation levels. TEPCO was not testing for this.
...................................................................................
This forced the government and schools to act. Well guess what? The problem is NOT just in Fukushima province. Low level radiation is all over Japan, and potentially also in the USA, around all schools here. Rain washes radiation out of the sky and concentrates it. Is anyone measuring the soil around schools around other areas of Japan, much less here in the USA? What about the foods that kids eat, like milk, cheese, veggies and fruit? Is anyone measuring the radiation in the foods?
