2011 Tax Credit
On December 17, 2010, President Barack Obama signed into law the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010. Under this law, homeowners may claim a tax credit for the purchase of energy-efficient windows, doors, and skylights.
To be eligible for the credit, windows, doors, and skylight must
Homeowners may receive a tax credit equal to 10% of the product cost (installation may NOT be included) up to
$200 for eligible windows and skylights
$500 for eligible doors
Homeowners may receive no more than $500 total for all energy efficiency tax credits. These caps are also the new "lifetime limits" for the taxable years of 2006 to 2011. If you claimed an energy efficiency credit in a previous taxable year, please consult a tax professional to determine your remaining eligibility for this credit.
The Internal Revenue Service (IR has not yet made a determination as to what documentation a homeowner must retain when claiming this tax credit. Until IRS issues a guidance document for this tax credit, homeowners should save all available documentation, such as purchase receipts, ENERGY STAR labels, and manufacturers' certification statements. Additional information will be provided if and when it is made available from the IRS.
2009-2010 Tax Credit
As of June 1, 2009, windows, doors, and skylights with U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) ratings of less than or equal to 0.30 are eligible for a federal tax credit of 30 percent of the product price, up to $1,500. Although it seems complicated to determine which products meet those requirements, ENERGY STAR makes it easy. Look for the following ENERGY STAR labels and you can be sure the product you are buying is eligible for the tax credit.
This image shows an ENERGY STAR product qualification label for doors. The product label states “ENERGY STAR Qualified in All 50 States” at the top and has an ENERGY STAR certification mark on the left. Beneath this, the label reads “Does this door meet the criteria for its glazing level? (Check only one box)” and is followed by a table. The table outlines the qualification criteria for each glazing level, followed by a column headed “Yes” where the manufacturer is to check, indicating the product qualifies for that glazing level. The first row includes the opaque, the second includes quarter or half-lite (less than or equal to half-lite), and the third includes three-quarter or full-lite (greater than half-lite). Opaque doors must have a U-factor of 0.21 or less and there is not requirement for SHGC. Less than or equal to half-lite doors must have a U-factor of 0.27 or less and an SHGC of 0.30 or less. Greater than half-lite doors must have a U-factor of 0.32 or less and an SHGC of 0.30 or less.
Doors with a checkmark in the "¼ or ½ Lite" or "Opaque" row are eligible for the tax credit.
Windows, Doors, or Skylights
This label may also appear on some eligible windows, doors, or skylights.
Although not required like the labels shown above, this ENERGY STAR label helps identify tax-credit-eligible products:
More Details on the Tax Credit
On February 17, President Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Tax Act of 2009. This bill extends and modifies the tax credits for windows, doors, and skylights established in the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The following guidance is not intended as legal advice, and you should consult a tax professional with specific questions.
Qualifying products purchased between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 are eligible for a tax credit equal to 30 percent of the product cost. Installation is not included; be sure to obtain an itemized invoice from your retailer or installer. The maximum amount of homeowner credit for all improvements combined (including roofing, insulation, HVAC, and water heaters) is $1,500 during 2009 and 2010.
Products Purchased before June 1, 2009
Criteria: Windows, doors, and skylights purchased before June 1, 2009 must meet or exceed the prescriptive criteria established by the 2001 Supplement of the 2000 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) or the 2004 Supplement of the 2003 IECC for the climate zone in which the product is installed.
Documentation: For windows and skylights, homeowners may use either ENERGY STAR labels or manufacturer certification statements to document eligibility for the tax credit. Doors are required to have a manufacturer certification statement.
Products Purchased on or after June 1, 2009
Criteria: Windows, doors, and skylights purchased on or after June 1, 2009 must have U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) ratings of 0.30 or less. These ratings must be certified by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). Look for the NFRC label. NFRC is the only federally recognized organization for determining the energy performance of windows, doors and skylights. Please see the NFRC website for information concerning product performance.
Documentation: Homeowners must obtain a manufacturer certification statement to document window, door, or skylight eligibility for the tax credit. If the retailer or installer cannot provide this document, it may be available on the manufacturer's Web site."
Are you aware of what may be occuring on Sept 16th-26th, 2011? What do you think will happen when Elenin does a fly by, close to Earth? Is this going to be a non-event, a life extinction event, or something in between? NASA says this is just a small icy comet, and the Earth will pass through the tail with no effect at all, if there is a tail at all. They call it it a dark comet with little or no tail at all. http://www.nasa.gov/topics/solarsystem/features/comet_elenin.html
Some people (not NASA) report that this comet will cause a three day eclipse of the sun and that the Earth will be in the dark. Is there a chance that we may experience a partial eclipse? "SEPTEMBER 26, 2011, at 05:22:28 DST THE SUN GOES DARK AS ELENIN BLOCKS THE SUN; Analysis of SpaceObs video" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afhmhfzjiho&t=2m
The above SpaceObs analysis does not make any sense, as the comet is too small and too far away from Earth even as it passes close by. It will probably not even make a smudge of a small shadow on any part of Earth. The video analysis is flawed, and the musical sound is probably the most entertaining part.
Other Youtube posters say that Elenin will collide with Earth and cause massive chaos and destruction.
"NASA posts Elenin YouTube prediction video on their website 3/3/2011"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jx69wPbSGk
The problem with this theory is that they have to assume that this comet is under the control of UFO's, and that it will change course, because astronomers have tracked this comet. Elenin comes nowhere close to Earth.
Even if it did change course somehow, Elenin would completely vaporize before it hit anything on Earth, because it is made of loosely packed ice and dirt. This kind of thing may make a huge fireball as it disintegrates in the atmosphere, but it does not have the mass or composition to stay together long enough to actually hit Earth.
According to most career scientists working for NASA and other credible scientific institutions, Elenin is nothing more than a small ice ball comet. It is actually smaller than many comets. According to them, we will get through this, by watching a comet go by in our telescopes.
So why does it seem to be so easy to get scared and go into panic mode with a DoomsDay prediction? The fact of the matter is, people are programmed to respond to fear, and not respond to logic or science. I initially also reacted the same way, with fear. I did not look at the science until AFTER that initial fear response. I took one or two sources at their word and did not look further. I made a mistake. Something this large needs a lot of investigation and looking at it from BOTH sides, before jumping to a conclusion.
Each year, many supposed 'experts' have been predicting the end of all life on the planet. This began thousands of years ago. Each time a Doomsday prophet comes out of the woodwork, they roll out proof that their story is or was true, using places like the Bible, videos, UFO communications, special insights, people living inside the Earth, other dimensional communications, etc. None of this is scientific however.
Now some of these same types of people are saying that Elenin is in fact a dark star, and that the Earth is going to SHAKE, RATTLE and ROLL due to massive gravitational changes.. Their theory is posted on Youtube, like this one...
"ELEnin Dwarf Star Warning September 26, 2011"
This theory is disproven by actual video (see link below) that shows pictures of Elenin actually flying by us. Numerous scientific instruments have focused on Elenin specifically and many scientists have weighed in on what they found, using these very highly advanced observation tools. These observations are discussed here; http://t.co/JN1qglH None of these scientists that are actually using these tools are talking about the end of the world.
Bottom line, these scientists who are paid to find things that threaten Earth, did not see anything unusual about Elenin. There are no gravitational fields, no other planets orbiting Elenin. There are not even ice chunks or debris clouds that fly alongside or behind it. Elenin is just an ordinary, run of the mill comet, with a trail of ice particles and dust, like many others that came before and many others that will be coming by again.
All of the above being said, we do have more than one issue to address. We do have around 400 nuclear power plants globally. To keep from melting down and becoming just like Fukushima, they all need power 24 hours a day, even after they shut down for an emergency.
Eventually, something large will hit the Earth, as it has throughout history. Eventually another meteor will hit Earth. It might be next year, or it may take another 50,000 years. No one knows for sure.
A massive meteor hitting the Earth can and probably will cause massive power outages and tsunamis. It will cause the Earth to go dark from the dust and volcanos that will happen, and that will cause huge disruptions and suffering.
The bigger problem humanity faces as a result of some future meteor hitting us, is that we could have 100 or more nuke plants melt down after a meteor hits.. If this is not what we want, we have to prepare, by doing something different.. A meteor hitting Earth will happen, guaranteed. It is not if it will happen, but when.
It is bad enough to suffer through a meteor strike. It is much, much worse to have to die slowly from the massive amounts of radiation released from 100 plus nuclear plants melting down, much like Fukushima is doing now, while also suffering after a hit by a meteor.
If we think Fukushima is bad; it is being compared to an equivalent of 20 Hiroshimas, then wait until 100 or more nuclear plants all melt down at the same time.. It would mean the end of most if not all human life on Earth, even for those who hide underground for possibly years.
So where do we go from here? First of all, we should not live in fear and go into panic mode every time someone says that they end is near, because of this or that..
No one can tell when the end of their life is, nor for that matter when the end of the Earth is. Many claim to know, but even the Bible says, NO MAN SHALL KNOW THE TIME. Those hundreds if not thousands of 'experts' who claim to know have been proven wrong for over 2,000 years now. The latest 'prophet' was proven wrong when he said the end was coming in June 2011.
Bottom line, we ALL have the opportunity to be grateful for EVERY SECOND of life that we live here on Earth. We cannot take it for granted. We do not know for sure how long a life we will have individually or as a planet.
So let's enjoy what we have in the present moment. Life may be gone in the next minute, and the planet may be hit by a meteor in two years. What difference does it make? Do we live in fear, or choose to live in love and joy and peace? Let us enjoy our family, relationship, friends, relatives and neighbors. Let us live in peace, freedom and harmony together with whatever time we have, short or long.
Let us not waste time hating, worrying or staying in fear. Get into love. Love yourself and others. Love as is you only have a day or a month left to live. Live as if you only have a day or a month left to live. If we all do that, everything will be fine, no matter how it turns out.
About Elenin; NASA and other scientists say that we will watch and see a small ice ball race by. We may see a tail, but we also may not see anything. It will be just another comet in a long line of comets. We can continue to make long range plans, and carry them out. We can enjoy the luxury of planning how seven future generations will live, and what kind of planet we will pass on to them.
But while we are enjoying our brief lifetimes here on Earth, we had better start planning on the next meteor hitting Earth. It has in the past caused widespread devastation, and it will happen again eventually.
For this reason and no other, we are better off without dangerous nuclear power plants than with them. To boil water for thirty years and then have dangerous nuclear waste sitting around for the next 500,000 years, is not an acceptable risk for me. How about for you?
Hopefully, it will work out that humans will still be around on Earth saying all of the over and over again, 2,000 years from now, but to do that, we better start planning now. Let us plan how we want to leave the planet for seven future generations. That much, we have under our control. The rest, well, que sera, sera.
