We once lived in a land that was proud and free.
The people there weren’t afraid to speak.
No one would abuse them.
No one would dare.
The laws were all just and the courts were all fair.


The people were happy and life there was good.
The duties of leadership were well understood.
By the people,
For them all…
Everyone was heard in the government’s halls.


New people came from all around.
They worked in the fields and in the towns.
Give me your tired,
Give me your poor…
The pursuit of happiness for all was assured.


But, these freedoms vanished as if in a dream.
Stolen from the people by a great corporate greed,
Political pork barrels
And, the defense industry…
Whatever happened to the land of the free?


It doesn’t have to be this way.
Stand up and speak your minds today.
Don’t let them stop you,
Or shout you down.
There’s no one here who wears a king’s crown.


Each one of us has a right to be heard.
Political censorship is simply absurd.
So make us a poster,
Or sing us a song.
Give us your sense of what’s right and wrong.
