Show your support for women in poverty stricken countries. The first part is a wonderful(but sad) slideshow. It is wonderful because it shows the way life is- and how powerful and influential these women could become. Then, there is a way to show you support these women. All you do is fill in the information, create a statement, and then people can view it, and know that you care.
Please Order the Canadian government to immediately remove all police and military presence in the area of Caledonia and the Six Nations Reserve and return all Six Nations land to its rightful owners. Cease all development attempts. The title to Haldimand land conflict is a product of fraudulent misrepresentation by the Ontario government. It has affected both Indigenous People and those who have been fraudulently mislead into believing that they could purchase legal title to Six Nations land. The Ontario government should compensate the people for the land they stole from the Indians and turned over to Henco and its customers or remove themselves and Henco and its customers. Allow The Six Nations to peacefully hold the land they have legal and moral title to!

In Thailand, approximately 3,800 of the country’s estimated 5,000 endangered Asian elephants are in private hands. Most are used as tourist attractions in elephant camps where they are forced to perform circus tricks and give rides. PETA has uncovered the horrific torture that is routine in Thailand’s secret “training” camps. Still-nursing baby elephants are literally dragged from their mothers, kicking and screaming. They are immobilized, beaten mercilessly, and gouged with nails for days at a time. These ritualized “training” sessions leave the elephants badly injured, traumatized, or even dead. The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "donating a mammogram" for free (pink window in the middle - third down).
This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising. Make sure to click every day for breast cancer, hunger, literacy, children, the rainforest, and animals in need!
The Clean Air Act requires the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to set air pollution standards at levels that protect public health. On December 20, 2005, the EPA proposed new rules to limit particle pollution in outdoor air that fall short of their obligation to the American people.
Each year thousands of premature deaths occur because of particle pollution. Particle pollution also worsens asthma and other respiratory ailments. There is a strong consensus among scientists that the annual and daily limits on particle pollution need to be tighter to protect public health. EPA's own scientists and an EPA commissioned scientific panel also have proposed tightening both standards.
EPA Administrator Johnson, in spite of thousands of studies showing how dangerous particles are, proposed standards weaker than those recommended by scientists. This proposed rule leaves millions of Americans unprotected and threatens the lives of thousands.
Federal law requires the EPA to solicit and review comments on any proposed rule. We need to let them know that the Clean Air Act requires the EPA to protect our health, and that means tighter particle pollution rules.
Send an official comment to EPA and protest its proposed new rules that leave our lives and our health at risk.
It's rare that the nations of the world agree. But certain crises are so desperate and cause such human suffering that the global community can rise above all other conflicts and work together. Global poverty is a crisis that we truly have the ability to end.
All 191 member countries of the United Nations have pledged to meet a set of eight development goals, called the Millennium Development Goals, by the year 2015 - and we need your signature today to keep the world on track.
How can you help? Sign this petition - the ONE Declaration - and urge President Bush to pledge one percent of the U.S. federal budget to help the world achieve these far-reaching but critical development goals.
Here's what's at stake: Every week, 27,000 people die from lack of clean water; 60,000 people die from AIDS; and 204,000 children die from hunger, AIDS, and other preventable causes - that's one child every three seconds. More than 1.5 million Americans have already signed the ONE Declaration to make poverty history - please add your voice today!
"Ann" (not her real name) is a young Albanian woman who, at age 16, was kidnapped, raped and targeted for prostitution. She managed to escape to the United States, but our government has refused her request to stay in this country because she filed her application for asylum one month after the deadline. We're asking the government to let her stay and to change the rule they're using to send her back.
When Ann turned in her request for asylum, she was only 17 years old, suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The Immigration Judge said that she would not be eligible for asylum anyway because her kidnap, rape and threatened sale into prostitution were merely "personal" and "criminal" acts by a rejected suitor. Overwhelming evidence shows, however, that the man who kidnapped her treated her the way traffickers prepare their victims to be trafficked.
U.S. Women Without Borders is working with the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies to win justice for Ann and others in her position. Take action now to ensure that Ann is not sent back into the hands of her persecutors. Protest the one-year deadline for minors. Demand that our government protect victims of trafficking by giving them asylum in this country.
Please sign this petition and thank you for caring about a such an important issue.
All you hear is a door slammed closed and the sound of screams and choking as the gas is turned on. They see one another dying, going into convulsions and bleeding out of the mouth. Many are not quite dead and are thrown back in the incinerator. We are not talking about the Holocaust, we are talking about something that happens in your community every day.
Thousands of dogs are put down every year in North Carolina. Many shelters have not updated their method of euthanasia and are still using the gas chamber. In many peoples eyes this is not humane. The only humane way to put a dog to sleep is by lethal injection through a vein in the leg. This method takes less than 30 seconds and is pain free for the most part.
Please help, by signing this petition, North Carolina put a law into affect to make lethal injection into the leg the only way to euthanize an animal.
Did you know that the oceans absorbed 48 percent of the carbon dioxide emitted into the air by humans over the last two centuries? At that rate, impacts from global warming could damage the ability for many ocean creatures to survive. Please help by signing this important petition!
Since 1800 the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has increased by nearly 36 percent. However, this reflects only half of the CO2 that has been emitted during this same time, leaving room for some doubt as to the urgency of global warming. Recent studies show that the "missing" CO2 has been absorbed into the oceans. And now, studies are demonstrating that the increased amount of CO2 in the oceans is threating ocean life.
Between 1800 and 1994 the oceans absorbed 118 billion metric tons of carbon -- equalling the weight of 118 billion small cars! What happens now? According to the study, the increased carbon can affect the acidity of the oceans, slow the development of coral reefs and shelled sealife -- creatures that represent the base of the foodchain in the ocean. Such a disruption to the foodchain can severely affect the balance of ocean life with potentially catastrophic results.
Take action today to stop this assault on the oceans. Sign the petition below and urge Olympia Snowe, Chairwoman of the Senate Subcommittee on Oceans, Fisheries, and Coast Guard to fund renewable energy sources and efforts to slow global warming to protect our health and our oceans.
